Value on Vintage 80's Bianchi
Hi! So I am brand spankin new to this forum and pretty new to cycling. I came across this listing online for an 80's Bianchi in Celeste Green. The seller is asking $275 and I was wondering if that was a good deal and if it is worth it? We've been emailing back and forth, and he says it's ready to ride but has some rust.
If anyone could be please help me and let me know if this is a good value for a decent bicycle! I want to have some wiggle room financially in case the bike needs some work. I'd also like to know a possible year/make?
Thanks so much!

Unless you live in a red hot bike market, I'd pass. Heck I'd even pass in a red hot market. Mid range frame (cromor tubing) and mid range parts with rust issues. You can do better.

In my experience, and I learned the hard way, when you see rust there is a high potential for two major issues: stem is frozen and/or seat post is frozen.

The bad: The bike looks rough; the parts look rough; it's a lower quality steel Cromor frame; possible stuck stem/seat.
The good: It's a celeste Bianchi and it has some cool suntour componentry (although in super rough shape too).
+1 That you can do better for 275.

I think you can do better for 275...and it will have issues! Even if the stem/seat post are not stuck, there is at least another $100 in consumables, etc. So...that makes it, at least, a 375 bike...
And...while the components are ok, they all need refurbishing as well!
Pass...
