I have a vintage Peugeot in really great shape for the age. I planned on riding the bike but seems they hold their value pretty well so now I am reconsidering. I would like to know the age and value of my bike and if I should keep it as a collectors item or a daily rider. Here are some details about the bike that should help, color scheme is white mainly with blue decals, serial number starts with the letter y. Thanks in advance for any leads in the right direction.

Taking some pictures as we speak, looks like a 82-90 model by the decal, blue stripes and the number 103 on the decal located on the seat tube.

Okay thank you for the input, I planned on Frankensteinng some new gear on it to make more road worthy. But didn't want to wreck something if it was better off in it's original condition.

I just got a similar peugeot Corbier. About the only thing I could do was improve the rims from steel to Vuelta Airframes, and new brake pads. I wanted to tweak the rear from 5 gear to oh 7 or so. Not a good idea to try to widen the frame to accommodate a larger cassette.

The money I was looking to spend would be half way to a new Trek Domane 4.5 disc.

Check it out, look before you leap. BUT if you want to try, go for it!

Here it is on the back of my car. blue Vuelta Airframe 4 rims and new 700x23 tires. it rolls so much better. I finally learned how to import pictures. be safe.

Peugeots with Carbolite 103 or HLE tubing decals are considered entry level models for the most part. They ride fine, but the bikes are heavier due to the lower grade steel tubing and the components.

The lighter and higher quality Peugeot frames are generally fabricated with Reynolds 501, Reynolds 531, and Vitus tubing.

I have both a 1960s Peugeot A-08 and a 1984 (I think) Corbier model. They were both bottom of the line at the time they were made, with "Carbolite" tubing (that is what the 103 badge refers to.) I am still fixing up the Corbier, but I can attest that my older A-08 model is a surprisingly pleasant bike to ride. Peugeot did something very right with the tubing and frame! To be sure, I have modified it with aluminum rims and Compass tires, and replaced the derailleurs. I've added racks front and rear and use it for my shopping and go-everywhere bike, but it is so good that I would happily use it for loaded touring.

In short, keep that bike and use it!

Yeah , sometimes it feels that way , but odds are , you will have a tail wind 50% of the time ! And , nice build, really an eye catcher with the wheelset !
