Early 90's Nishiki Olympic
Potentially purchasing this from an owner tonight. I want to offer $175. Looks to be in great condition. Not super knowledgeable when it comes to road bikes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Owners on the net seem to be pleased with the bike. Solid framework. Can ride extremely smooth. Versatile.
Sincerely,
R

The bike does seem to be in good shape I would say it's worth $200-250 as presented so $175 seems like a reasonable starting point. The bike is a mid 80's model based on the none aero brake levers and aero center mounted shift levers which with the paint would date to about 85 or so.

The subject bicycle is a 1986 model based on the Light Action derailleurs and 27" rims. Light Action came out in 1986 and this model went to 700C with Presta valves in 1987. It is a nice, upper entry level model and this one appears to be in very good condition. The only thing that might be considered a drawback are the 27" rims, as the tire choices are much more restricted than 700C..

Thank you very much. My goal for this bike is to build mileage in order to prepare for a tour along the west coast, later this year. Will this be suitable to begin learning gears and sitting on my butt for long extended periods?

While a good deal, if the bike is either too big or too small it will be no bargain in the end.
