'86 Nishiki Prestige

I know this was a higher end bike. It does look to be in pretty good condition but the biggest issue for me is it appears the Prestige top tube decal needs replaced and I can't find one anywhere. Velocals has Nishiki decals but not the Prestige model. I guess I could completely remove the TT decals and polish it up but that would be a bummer. The seller is asking $175 and doesn't look like it would need much money put into it. Ok deal, a steal, in between? Worth a 4 hour round trip?

What it could look like:

Well, it is a Prestige frameset but there are lots of changes, Wheelset, is mismatched with SF on front and LF on rear. Rear rim looks like it may be MAVIC. Rear derailleur and crankset are non-OEM but can't identify due to poor pics. The jury is out, pending further info on components.

Somebody might give $175 for that, it's a nice bike and great frameset. It really depends on the components and real condition of the frame. I wouldn't be able to venture a guess without better photos/info on componentry, but the Tange 2 rides beautifully. I have a 1985 Prestige, and it's one of my smoothest bikes. Nice quick handling without being too twitchy either.

I know it's supposed to be a nice riding frame. I can't find an '86 catalog to see what the stack parts are supposed to be.

Looks like an ok deal. If it were local I'd give it a look. No way I'd drive two hours each way for it though, unless you really have your heart set on one.

If I get smitten by an out of town bike, I check the destination CL and thrift stores for flippers. You might pay for your gas at the least; or wind up with a free bike and cash in the pocket.

I searched for more than 4 years to find a 60cm Prestige. I had a 57 cm Prestige that was a bit too small, but a blast to ride. I lucked out, thanks to my lovely wife, and found a nice Cyclone equipped donor bike. Can't wait for Spring! If you buy, fix the small things and Enjoy!

If you go to all the trouble to make a 4 hour round trip you should just go ahead and buy it. I'd also call the seller when I leave and tell him to hold on to it till you get there.

At this price, I'm indifferent to whether the parts are original or not as long as they are good quality parts. I like the bike but it is not collectible. At this price it would not tempt me to go on a 4 hour road trip.

+1 I did spend about $25 on tolls to obtain a Miyata 1000, but it was about 70 minutes each way.

Did realize it was a family business! It has felt like spring for most of this winter season, until today.
