70's Pinarello Treviso

I'm looking for someone who might know more about this bike than I do. It's a Pinarello Treviso from the early 70's according to the bike's owner whom I might add says it was purchased from Ernies Bike Shop in the 70's. I have some idea what it is worth from looking around on various sites to see asking and sold prices. Here's what I could not find out any information on, and that is the large chain ring is embellished with the Pinarello name and "P" logo. Nowhere in my travels did I see this feature on any other bike. Is it rare? Is it the holy grail of Pinarello parts? I don't know and hope someone here can shed some light on the subject. I am preparing to eventually sell the bike maybe here on the Market Place section and I'd like to get the best price for the original owner who no longer rides. Also does anyone know what membership addition is needed to sell on market place? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

It looks early to mid 80's to me based on braze on cable guides and shifter mounts as well as under BB cable routing. Nice bike.

Looks 80s to me also. Especially all the peeling decals. Not necessarily in my wheelhouse, I'd guess $800 is a good middle-ground if it's ready to ride and fully maintained. I'd like to run away with it at out at $650-$700 and I'm sure if I were selling it I'd like to walk away with $900-$950 or more.

I'd be cautious. I've seen several mid-1970s Pinarello frames that would pre-date this bicycle, as they have features like top tube cable clips and exposed brake nuts. Yet they still have the CPT embossing on the stay caps, in the old block style lettering. I don't see this feature on the subject bicycle, indicating it is either not a Pinarello or possibly a lower model. Furthermore, the Columbus decal if original, would indicate it is no older than 1978.

The crankset appears to be Campagnolo Gran Sport with the wider, flat bottomed flutes. The brakes also appear to be Gran Sport. The hubs' skewer nuts don't have the D-ring and appear to a lower model such as Nuovo Tipo. Overall, it does have the appearance of being mid-range model equipped with the Campagnolo Gran Sport group and an upgraded rear derailleur. In which case, the bicycle would be no older than 1979.

The overall impression is a very early 1980s, mid-range model, such as an Italia. In which case, despite the pantographing (which would be OEM), I wouldn't be paying anywhere near the suggested prices.

I have a later Treviso (1987 or so) and it has several differences from your bike which can be explained by time. But one thing that I am pretty sure is true for all Treviso from the 70s on up is the chrome chainstay - which your example is lacking. So either its a repaint, or its not a Treviso would be my first thought. The rear drop outs would also normally be left unpainted (exposing the chrome).

The panto-graph chainring is OEM and correct. some of them just say Pinarello without the CPT.

T-Mar is of course correct - the caps should also have the CPT engraved/ Mine also says "TREVISO" on the BB but that may just be because that is the city in which it was made and not the model.

I realized after that some confusion might be that it probably says treviso on the head tube badge. They all say that and its not an indication of model. Just the city name.

Looks to me like the 'Italia' model. Gran Sport group, Columbus Tretubi frame. What are the dropouts? Campagnolo or Gipiemme?

Pinarello Treviso

I have more pictures I just didn't post them all. If it helps I can post more. It does say Treviso on the seat post tube. I am glad to get educated from all your comments because this is a little new to me.

Maybe a 300 bike? I would not pay more than that for a lower end model steel bike. Buyers market.

The additional photos confirm my earlier assessment of a mid-range Italia model with mid range Campagnolo Gran Sport and an upgraded rear derailleur. The pantographed parts are OEM. The Columbus tretubi decal indicates that only the 3 main tubes are made from high grade SL tubing and that the forks and stays are some lower grade material. The photos also confirm that the bicycle is not early 1970s and no older than 1979.

I don't keep with values but I would think that this would be closer to the $300 estimate than the $800 estimate.

Looks exactly like the Italia in the 1982 catalog.

FWIW, the fork crown matches the style on the bike I recently bought, which T-Mar identified as an 83/84 Pinarello Gran Turismo, but the chain stay bridge is different. I believe mine has full Columbus SL tubing. This may give you an idea of the visual differences either between tube sets or model years (I couldn't say which). All the Pinarellos of that era look the same to me on first glance, give or take a chrome fork here and there. People like T-Mar with extensive knowledge can spot the differences.

(also note the Columbus sticker on the fork)

I paid $550 for mine, which I feel like may have been a bit high (it was the seller's asking price) but I really wanted the bike.
