Vintage women's Schwinn Traveler
Hi everyone.
My bike was recently stolen while at work (new State Bike CO, fixed gear) and I travel solely by bike so I'm pretty desperate to hop back on one. I've been perusing Craigslist and found an ad for an 18 speed (?) Vintage women's Schwinn Traveler. It's in great condition, looks like it could be an upgraded 80's model. The seller couldn't tell me the year or any other specs other than what's listed in the ad and I'm assuming 18 speed is a mistake and it's actually a 10 speed. I was wondering if anyone could give me more information, potentially an appraisal from the pictures. I'm trying to buy it for $200 if that's reasonable so I can afford a ULock and maybe a tracker to prevent theft again.
Here's the ad link (https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/bik/5468997339.html)
Thanks!

The bike does look it be in great shape, mostly original with new consumables and would make a nice commuter as for the speeds it's a 12 speed 6x2 indexed. The price does seem a bit high by $100 or so considering it is a step through with 27 inch wheels and Suntour accushift components.

It looks to be around 86 or 87. The catalogs are all online so you can check there. The bike looks good, but seems to be a bit overpriced.
Unfortunately for you small bikes tend to sell at a premium.

As for the year of the bike it looks to be a 87/88 model. As for the components the 5000 Alpha stuff is fine, but a little less desirable because it isn't fully compatible with modern stuff so a bit harder to find stuff if you need replacement repair parts.

It looks like it's had a pretty easy life. Usually, bikes that age are well worn & would go for closer to $100. It would be interesting to find out the history. Is it NOS?

It appears to be an '87: Schwinn 1987 Sport Cycles -- Le Tour / Traveler
I do think the value is closer to $150.

I think Metacortex is right. 87 appears to be the only year it was offered in that Celeste-like "Winter Mint" color. The good thing is that it doesn't look like it needs anything to ride right away.
This 1987 Miyata 112 might be worth checking out too. Kind of a townie setup with the upright bars. It's already at your goal price and it's been posted for 20 days so they should probably be able to meet you lower.
