1983 Cannondale - BIG
Hi - First post (that's what you get for being the top forum hit for "vintage cannondale value").
Judging by the SN "AA03683" this fella was built in 1983. Other than that, I don't know much about it, i couldn't find a model number.
It was my stepdads and he didn't want it, so i said i would take it. I am pushing 6' 4" and it is nearly too big for me. So, I'd like to get rid of it , but am curious if it has any value at all. It is in average condition (for being 33 years old). Some surface rust on the handlebars, some paint peeling. It rides nice, but is just too big.
The wheels are 26" and I posted some photos with measurements.
Any thoughts are appreciated including, "just donate it to The Mountain"
Thanks,
-Jamison

Measure from the center of the crank to the center of the seat lug area. If it's 27in your market will be extra tiny and almost unsellable. At 25in it would have a reasonable market as a tour Commuter. (rear rack mounts, double brazeon fork mounts) Are you sure the wheels are 26in? I suspect they are 27in.
It looks like a predecessor to the ST series but it is a smidgen before the time I started paying attention to cannondale.
Cool 5 speed half step granny config on the gearing.
If it's 27in I would donate to the local co-op at 25 in take a whirl at listing it as a "vintage cannondale touring bike"
PS: Drop bars will class it up a bit.

Still learning
Put it on CL at $199 and be happy to let it go for $175. The tires are 27" not 26"

Too big for 6' 4" ??
Those upright bars probably make it feel bigger.

First of all, you have to convert it back into the road bike it once was-get rid of those silly ape-hang bars and upright stem. Replace the cruiser saddle with a road saddle. That rear wheel with the chrome disk-NOT original-replace it with a decent road wheel, something that will work with the index shifters (which are probably set in friction, since I don't believe Cannondale EVER offered a 5-cog rear).

I think that bike is from Cannondale's first year of making bikes.

Thanks for all of the info. The measurement from mid crank to seat lug is about 26":
The tire size is 27":
I appreciate the suggestions on the changeouts, but that isn't going to happen. I just want the damn thing out of my garage.
I'll toss is up on Craigslist for $75-$100 as is.
If anyone here is in the Minneapolis area and is interested, you can have it for $50. Just DM me.
Thanks again.
