It is indeed a Peugeot UO-8, or at least that was what they were called when I bought mine in about 1968. Reasonable entry-level road bike. For extensive riding, you're lucky that the original parts aren't there. I wore most of mine out in two years of hard riding.

For a UO-8, the chromed forks coupled with painted chainstays and seatstays are a typical visual cue, and so are the block-pattern headtube lugs (usually referred to as "aztec" lugs). Others can comment more expertly about seat post diameter, chainstay length, etc.

Early 70s UO-8, nothing more, nothing less. You know it's an O and not an E because there are no provisions on the seat stays for a dynamo which would suggest fenders. Paint and decals look to be in good shape, and that's one of the better colors, BB shell looks clean. Someone scrubbed the paint off the fork crown so it's all chrome showing, and the original bike would've come with Mafac Racer calipers versus the 80s Weinmanns on there now. I've had a couple, they're heavy but still a nice ride.
