Raleigh Super Course value?
Hello fellow CV'ers,
There is a Raleigh Super Course near me for sale
https://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/bik/5782104959.html
It looks like it could be worth looking at, but I am not up to speed on the value/desirability of these bikes. Is this a reasonable price for this bike? This would definitely be an n+1 bike.
Thank you

If it's a keeper, snag it. Price is not out of line, especially in that area of the country. Change the wheels out, ride the heck out of it. I have that exact bike tucked away for a buildup in the near future.

Still learning
Unless the rims are damaged beyond repair or the spokes are all heavily rusted, no need to change the wheelset.
Decent Taiwan made Raleigh. Price is about at FMV.

Agree with all the above. I always try to make room for another "chrome" Raleigh from 84/85. They are very nice riders.
If you imagine a bit, they are also excellent candidates for updating with modern 10 speed components and wheels. I have done two these (Competition and Prestige) and everything bolts right on. There's an entire thread on these bikes somewhere on this forum that can get you dreaming!
Either way, $150 is a fair deal for a fun bike.

I think that is fair. At least I would buy it at that price..... And as suggested I wouldn't change the wheelset either. Until it needed it for reasons other than the galvanized spokes aint so shiny no more :-)

Crusty wheel sets are just a major turn off, whether it be a "flip" bike or a keeper.

You gonna eat that?
But $150 is a good deal.
Full disclosure: The mid-80s Raleighs sold in the US were "Raleigh USA". Raleigh of Nottingham, UK, had pulled out of the US market and the brand was managed by Huffy for 3 or 4 years until Raleigh UK returned. That said, Huffy sourced capable bikes from Taiwan and Japan, and sourced the top-end frames from Nottingham.
I have a 1983 Super Course as my daily rider; got a couple thousand miles on it so far this year. It's a good bike.

Thank you all for the information. Unfortunately I dragged my feet and the bike was snapped up before I made my move. Oh well, there will be others (not that I need another project )
