Eddy Merckx Age Determination
Not sure if this one is old enough to be in this forum. If not, I apologize.
I recently bought this Eddy Merckx Elite Pista w. an amazing MX Leader fork, but the previous owner didn't have any info on the frame whatsoever - why I've come to you. I'm keen on knowing the age, tubing and approximate value. Info on the paint job would be amazing too!
I've done some research and figured out that it's probably some kind of Easton DB 70-something - but again, I'm not sure.
The only thing I know is that it's from before 2006. There was a sticker on it with a date from that year from the local velodrome.
People tell me different things. Some say it's a high end bike, others, that it's cheap aluminium. I sure as hell don't hope for the last option... Is the paint a one-of-a-kind thing or are there many more out there? If so, they've sure done a great job hiding in google.
I'm planning on keeping this and building it up with Campagnolo Pista. Any other suggestions are so very welcome!
Thanks a lot!
Best regards,
Karl

Can't help you with an exact date. Merckx did not make any cheap aluminum frames.

Banned.
MSRP $1600 w/carbon fork when new in 2003. Now about worth $500 with original fork. The leader fork could be worth close to that alone, to the right person in excellent condition.
My advice is sell the fork and use the profit to get a pista CF fork (If you are using the frame as intended) and use the funds to buy components.
Bottom line, good pista frame and great road fork.

Thanks guys! Really useful! So your guess is that it could be from 2003? I haven't found anything like this from before then...
And yes to the MX fork - but it is undrilled, and I would prefer it if it was kept that way! Even though I know it can be done very professionally, I think it would be a crime to drill in such a thing...

Keep the fork with the frame, the original looking paint indicates that it's a matched set.

Yeah @BARettscv I'm not gonna part with that fork. Even though I still haven't decided how to build it up I think it would be a huge mistake to remove it now that it matches the paintjob of the frame!
