Panasonic AR-6000

Owner of Ar-6000 since new. Just pulled from garage today. Thought it was mint <150 miles but noted some light scratches, one large (1 in) and minor flake off of paint at rear lug area. There is a mar on handle bars and one brake hood has partial deteration (1 in seperation) at top inside of hood. Understand this is a rare item. Would be glad to hear from you and your ideas on how to market my Aero. Please note value for item if known and yes I would like the most money available. Cycle is hand made in Japan, Pansonicmodel and has an all Shimano Dura-Ace AX groupo; hope this extra helped.

In order to get any kind of accurate estimate, you will need to describe the components and post some pictures. It would also be helpful if you used a little bigger font, since we are all about 80 years old and have really poor eyesight.

I owned an AR 6000, very nice bike.

Judging the value is tough. The components are probably worth as much separately as the entire bike. Little things, like the blue caps on the brakes and the dust caps on the hubs can have a disproportionate effect on the value, as they near impossible to replace. The brake hoods, if you have the original blue, are absolutely impossible to find. You see gum hoods come up for about $60 a set on eBay from time to time.

The size frame will also have a bearing on the value. Too big or too small limits the customer base.

Another member here is a huge Panasonic fan, and has posted threads relating directly to them, and even some pictures of the AR-6000.

In any case, without pictures, and lots of them, showing the defects, it's impossible to even guess on the value.

Holy giant font, Batman!

Seriously though, cool looking bikes. I have never seen one before. Here is a pic from the BF member OFG refers to.

Thanks for your reply, pics to follow tomorrow. Have been cleaning and it cleans up nice. Dont know if this matters but I have used no wax or never dull ect.. and its looking like new! This is all original except for the brake pads. Its a 23 frame (mid size) and if this were a car I would say the butchers have not gotten to it; thanks again for your post. Regarding comments on my font for first post from others; ya, ya, and for the next one ya.

Anywhere from $285 to $550 would be my guess... it all depends upon condition and for many buyers (such as myself), originality. Being pearl white, touching up scratches is a bit more difficult than on solid color bikes.

The original white aero brake hoods may as well be made of unobtainium as well. I have several sets of the gum colored hoods but have yet to come across any in white.

Pretty cool bikes though... especially for their age.

Thanks for the guess ZeRinger. Not a painter but the Ford MK-8 had a subtle pearl, dont know year. My AERO is an 82.; brake hoods on this year were greenish and I understand they are almost non existent. Would like someone who will appreciae this relic ride be the purchaser. Kpug505, thanks, yes this is an all dura-ace AX also replaced handle stem to extend bars about 3.5 cm., stil have original. Some years ago and yes in slightly better shape my local shop said I could get about $750 could this be rue? Would it be OK to mention E-bay start time in this thread if I decide to go that route?
Thanks Again
Tom R

I think the bike could bring a lot more on eBay. I would meticulously clean it, so no rust shows on the nuts, etc. Hit the whole frame with a good rubbing compound and Zymol type wax.

Put it on eBay for $1400 BIN. There are incentives to the buyer than can lower the cost to them by up to $300. Point out the flaws, so that they know exactly what they are getting, put on new, good quality tires, and include the original AX stem.

After you sell it send me $100 for helping to maximize your profits.

PM me, I can tell you how it works.

Self promoting your own auction is frowned upon heavily here, but is allowed in other forums.

PM me

Edit: If I was back in MI, I think I have one original blue brake hood stashed in a box somewhere that I would donate, but I won't be back there until late May, sorry.
