I'd say it is overpriced. If it was really nice and fits well, I'd offer no more than $50.

EDIT: You bumped during my reply. If it is for your GF, don't let her ride steel rims (which this bike most likely has).

Agreed. Keep in mind, it'll be heavy as heck, but it'll survive a nuclear explosion.

With fenders and frame pump, plus being in Portland, it seems about market value.

Alright well if the lady ever emails her back, were going to try and convince her that we have to drive to portland to give us a a deal. I dont need any of that so thats another contributor to why we should get it for less...right? Lol, jk....

So you're in Portland, but figure you might as well tell the seller that you are not in Portland to get yourself a better deal?

For one, it won't work (If you're going to make the drive, she will naturally assume it's worth something to you, hence, no price reduction); secondly, nobody cares to get jerked around; and third, it is dishonest.

You'd be on my ignore list of potential buyers if I were selling it...

Would this be a good platform for a SS or FG for her? More so frame-wise I guess im asking. Going to replace a lot of parts on it anyhow.

It'd make a great platform for a SS/FG. It's not particularly valuable, and is bombproof. There is an adapter kit out of the BMX world that will allow you to go to a better bottom bracket/3 piece crank, as well, and will make it a lot easier to get the proper chain line and crank gearing.

Look here for a little bit of info

+1. I doubt the bike market in Ohio is as hot as Portland, Suburbans, Varsities and Continentals in ride ready condition go for 75-150. That being said, it is all about the condition of the bike. If it is decently chipped up or the bike is not in working order the value goes way down. Schwinns are common 20.00 garage sale finds in Ohio so they really have to be in nice shape to justify the cost of rebuilding them.

Consider this, that bike is probably worth more money in parts. Check out what the individual parts sell for on ebay. That seat says "Schwinn Approved" on the back and would probably sell for 1/3 the cost of the total bike.

I had a heavy old Suburban with 27 inch wheels. It was heavy, but it was smooth and comfortable. I actually regret selling that bike.

That also looks like it has the front freewheel system and maybe a Positron shifter. It's a Low-end but fun drive train to mess around with. It uses a special solid wire to shift the rear derailer, and I read that they may be hard to find in coming years.

Sorry. It was hard for me to take it as a joke when I first saw it.
