Raleigh Internationals still in the boxes - info?

We dug deep in the warehouse and found this pair of Raleigh Internationals still in their unopened boxes. I'm guessing they're from the mid-seventies but have been unable to learn anything about them. Could any of you provide some information as to what we have?

    Thanks.

    Probably from 1974.

Now, its 35 years on. These bikes often did Not have stainless spokes. The tires will be shot most likely, saddle, and other stuff really depends on the humidity they were stored in, leaky roof?

Open the top flap, the bike will pull out almost as a complete bundle, everything will be tied together save for the box with some parts.

Photo document the unboxing to confirm the basic condition, you will not need to undo much , there will be some crepe paper to pull aside here and there.

Sleeping Beauties can be just that or like the '56 Merc that was buried in a "time capsule" and unearthed a few years ago, a pile of rust.

Kurt doesn't really need another bike. You should sell the #R 971 box to me. I am a much more deserving recipient, I assure you.

I agree. In fact, sell it to him for $150, he deserves the price cut.

Oh, and sell the 20.5" to Tigerprawn for $100. He's a great guy.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the responses! Final decisions on prices rest with the owner. Not sure when I'll see him again but it will be in the next day or so.

We've gotten a lot of interest in the 1974 Raleigh Professional that was built but never ridden. It's been hanging in the warehouse for three and a half decades.

And the Serena Brescia because of the history of this particular bike which was used by 1986 Giro d'Italia winner Roberto Visentini to win the 1975 World Junior Championships.

Newbie offering to buy out of the blue? Sure you aren't a shill for the seller?

What does he need 2 for? One for each leg?

To the OP: In all seriousness, what you have is a nice, but not unprecedented find. If you want to know what the maximum value you could get for a NIB Raleigh International, a few minutes on eBay (or what Mr. Nelson flips them for) will answer your question. The price you find will be about 4-5 times what most on this board would consider a "fair" price for such a bike. I don't presume to speak for everyone here, but there does exist a strong community of enthusiasts that prefer to see bikes like this on the road above all else. When items do come up for sale we like to see them priced fairly and share in everyone else's enjoyment of classic bicycles. If you want to maximize your profit, put these up on eBay. If you want to see these bikes appreciated and enjoyed for a long time, then there are several members here who would love to have a wonderful machine like that. Whatever you do, please don't turn it into a bidding war here.

The thoughts you folks have shared have been very helpful and I'll share them with the shop owner. He probably has 25 road bikes of this vintage and we'll be selling them over time. Obviously he'd like to get as much as he can for them. Thanks to all who responded.

I had no clue what their current value was and it's rewarding to see that there is demand for these vintage bikes.

There was a guy in the Portland area trying to unload an NIB Competition GS a while ago. He started at $1,500, dropped to $1,100; not sure where it went after that but the trend wasn't looking good for the seller. The components will be crusty if not rusty, tires may or may not be good (I've had both good and bad in NOS/NIB situations) and depending on how/where they were stored (I see some water damage on the cartons - not bad, but something to be aware of; the cartons themselves look sound so the frames are likely in good shape). Rule of thumb, assuming everything else is in "new" condition, I'd say the NIB/NOS brings a 1.5 x-factor over a VG or excellent condition example. Not sure what that means for an International as I don't know much about them (other than, like other Raleighs, they were plagued with inconsistent build quality). My money would still be on a nice, well-preserved Ron Cooper.

    And he's been a member since 2008!

    Lots of tongue-in-cheek here.

Leave it to say that many here LOVE these bikes, and the NIB is like dangling candy here. Do please send photos as they come out of the box!

    Please!

...+1. We internet touched them, and that must be worth something. Imagine if we'd seen them out of the box.
