Value of this bike?
I recently got a 1977 Montgomery Ward Amateur Athletic Union 10-speed on craigslist. Today I was walking it down the sidewalk when someone started talking to me about it (he said he was a bike mechanic), saying that it is worth a lot of money (over $1000). I can't find ANY information on this type of bike anywhere online. Does anyone know anything about these? I had assumed they were pretty cheap bikes. Thanks.

You should have told that guy he could have it for half of a thousand...
Just kidding, in all likely hood you are right. It's probably a 50.00 bike, you could post some pictures but I doubt that will change the estimate much. If I had a dollar for every time someone said "this bike is worth over 1000.00", I would probably have the 1000 dollars I needed to buy their bike.

I think that was great advice-- If this bike is worth $1000, the "bike mechanic" would jump at the chance to pay, say $250, even $500, so he could turn around and sell it for $1000.
Of course we all know that he'd have some excuse about why he couldn't make the killing of a lifetime. Just like we all know it's real value is less than $100...

Post it on Ebay with a starting price of $250. See how many bids your listing receives. Best guess - zero. I would usually say use CL, but then that could limit the ad to a smaller audience.
