1987 Fuji Sagres

Hi there, I recently purchased this 1987 Fuji Sagres for $80. I sold my old road bike in the spring, and was without a bike all summer, so the price was definitely worth it, now I am just looking for objective views on what this bike is worth. Also wanting to learn more about what makes a bike better quality or worth more money.

Note: I did put new tires and tubes on her first thing - so that's $40 more I put into it. But I still think I got a good deal considering she's in practically perfect condition.

Here is a link to the catalog page with every single specification - it just doesn't list the price.

https://classicfuji.com/1987_16_Sagres_Page.htm

Thanks!

I could get $175 for that in Tampa...if the seat and handlebars are adjusted correctly. Its a small bike so the possibilty of a small bike premium is possible.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

I'd say that you did well. If it were posted here, I think it would go very quickly for the $120 that you put into it.

By the way, we prefer drive side pictures here.

I feel like an idiot asking this... but by "premium" do you mean that the bike would cost more or less?
And I'm not THAT small. I'm 5'4" Do they even distinguish between men's and women's bikes anymore? Could this just as easily be a bike for a small guy?

And where I live, the only bike shop within 90 miles is Wal-Mart or the co-op I am a part of. A rideable bike is hard to come by, much less something like this. :-) So I'm definitely happy.

Small frame bikes like this one sell for a significant premium (higher price). Not many were made back then, and women in particular are migrating to a men's style bike.

Yes, new bikes differentiate between womens and mens bikes. Several manufacturers make women specific designs (WSD) of their road bikes. Visit a Trek bike shop and you will see some of them.

That bike is easily worth $120, more like $175-$200 especially if it has index shifting. Nice condition, aero brake levers, alloy seat post. Yeah that's a winner. AND it will outlast and outperform any new bike you could buy for $120 or for that matter $200. Consider that after you ride it for a while you can sell it for the $120 you've got into it. Try doing that with a Wally World bike.
