What's my 1982 Specialized Stumpjumper worth? It's the biplane model and in good condition, not mint, nor showroom, nor pristine, just good, cared-for shape. I intend to sell it or would like to trade it for a Specialized Expedition or Miyata 1000. Thanks.

Pictures please That said (and need pictures and a component list to get the model right) those early Stumpies are not that slowly becoming collectors items. If your bike is original and in good running shape, will probably get you up to $300-400 on ebay (and about $200 on CL, depending on your area). The marker is really going nuts for early original Stumpies, but you got to sell it on ebay and wait until spring and it might even get you that Miyata 1000 or the expedition...

The Stumpjumper is gray with white script downtube decals, biplane fork, 18-speed Suntour ARX derailleurs, Araya wheels,"Wheelsmith" sticker on the rear, crazy motorcycle brake lever, TA triple crankset, Mafac brakes, Suntour XC II pedals, "golf club" stem, Specialized riser bars, Specialzed Crossroads tires, Jim Blackburn racks, original grips, aftermarket saddle, 19.5" c-c, in good ridden condition.

I searched for a month for my son's Stumpjumper. Most were beat beyond recognition. I finally stumbled across a super nice 1983 Stumpjumper Sport. Slightly lower grade components, still a beauty. The bike is in "brand new" condition. I'll be honest, I only paid $275. I have received four unsolicited offers since I posted it on various forums. The lowest was $500. This bike was about $450 brand new! Believe it or not, my son doesn't want to sell the bike. He likes the fact that his dad took the time to find him this bike.



I also received front and rear Blackburn racks (front has original store tags and is unmounted as you can see in pics) and an original Avocet computer. Just needed a new battery. Really, all the bike needed was a thorough cleaning and lube. I also kept the original tires, and put on Ritchey Speed Maxs with new tubes. Hope this helps a little.

VINDICATED!!! I've been saying for about 2 years that vintage Stumpys are not to be treated like any other vintage, rigid fork MTB that typically flips for $100-$125. One individual actually posted that they were just another rigid fork MTB and didn't command additional bucks. But that's not true. True, the older the better, but Stumpies of any vintage get more $$ than almost any other MTB. I'm not justifying it, it's just a fact.
NOW, if I only owned one I could really make a statement, but the best I've been able to find is a 94 Rockhopper, and that is nowhere near as desirable as that name "Stumpjumper".
BTW, gomango, that's a beauty!

Better put some cash with that trade. Either touring bike you listed have values that are 50% higher or more, assuming similar condition.

Thank you. Market decides these matters. I personally would not have paid what I've been offered, nor could I at the moment. I'll post some additional pics this spring when we get it outside. The bike is crazy clean, with just a little storage scratch here and there. I also just picked up an extremely clean 1987 Bridgestone MB-1 for my youngest son. Paid less than a brand new entry level Schwinn MTB at the LBS. Really incredible bike, and I wish it were larger. I'd ride it.

What I really want is a Ritchey PT3!
