1982 Pinarello Record

A while ago, I asked a bunch of you experts about identifying an old 1982 Pinarello Record I picked off of the local CL. Well I rode it a bit and cleaned it up, but decided that the "vintage bike" thing just isn't for me.

So what do you guys think it's worth? If I can get a little bit more in a few months, I wouldn't mind waiting a little while longer.

Here are the specs:

Frame: 55cm Pinarello Record, Columbus tubing.
Wheelset: Wolber T410 Alpine rims/Shimano 600 QR hubs.
Freewheel: Shimano Sante (Could replace w/DA if needed)
Handlebars: 3ttt Competitzione/ Pelten Ciclolinea tape
Stem: 3ttt
Headset: Campagnolo Super Record
Brakes: Campagnolo Super Record/good condition brake pads
Brake Levers: Campagnolo Super Record/White hoods
Shifters: Campagnolo Super Record
F/R Deraileurs: Campagnolo Super Record
Crankset: Campagnolo Super Record
Bottom Bracket: Campagnolo Super Record
Seatpost: Campagnolo Super Record
Saddle: Selle Italia Turbo -or- Selle Italia Flite Ti
Tires: Continental Super Sport 700x25

Beautiful bike. Where are you located? Local sale or ebay?

All of these are significant factors in selling. Around here this time of year, the bike would have to be sold well below riding season pricing (like 50% below high season pricing). And higher end bikes like yours just don't sell for full value even during riding season on Craigs List. Most C/L buyers around here are looking for recreational level bikes, or better bikes priced like recreational bikes. The lower end stuff seems to move continually, the higher end stuff lingers. Hopefully you are in one of the hotter bicycle markets.

Of course, at the price you picked the bike up for, you should end up ahead, well ahead, even with a local sale.

+1 about waiting until the summer.

And while you are waiting, replace the wheels with Campy hubs laced to Rigida (or other approriate italian) rims and add a Campy freewheel. It will worth the money, you can sell the other parts to recover some of the cost, but having a full Campy bike in your case will bring you maybe 15% more that a mixed component bike. And, since you'd be changing the rims, Vittoria tires, might be a good way to go...

As far as price goes, there is one on the Philly CL in much worse condition selling for $900 (there is another thread here) and there is another one on ebay with a mis-mash of lesser components having a $1400 BIN (It' not going to sell, but I suspect that it will be relisted) so keep your eyes on those... You can probably get $1200 for yours in the early summer.

I forgot: Add a white saddle to this bike before you sell it, as well

Thanks for the responses. I think I mentioned a while back that I had a set of Campy Record high-flange hubs. I couldn't find a decent set of rims, so I abandoned building the wheels.

Any good source of 36H Italian/possibly Mavic rims?

Oh, and I was thinking of doing a local CL sale--possibly ebay if nobody's interested. I live in Boulder, CO, so I would venture to guess that the used bike market is pretty hot. A Denver ad for an old Raleigh I restored got responses from Scotland and New Mexico, so there's plenty of outside interest too.

Cool bike.

1) Patience counts. We are in the wrong season for you to get top dollar, or even fair dollar. Wait till you get some of those nice warm spring days.
2) No more money into the bike. Not one penny until the market dictates differently. That wheel set wouldn't make any difference for me, because I would just build my own anyway.
3) Try your local CL or swap meets. If that doesn't get you the right money, on to ebay.
4) The market on ebay usually decides the ultimate worth of your bike. Only you know how much you have into it. If it were me I would do the whole shebang for ebay with great descriptions and pictures. I would probably do a low or no reserve auction and let it ride. Again, let the spring market help you a bit.

This bike will sell for a good price. Folks like us are always looking for nice bikes.
