What do you think of this Colnago Super?

Hi, I have the chance to buy this Colnago Super.
It is not anymore in the best condition but would it
be a good investment? If yes, for how much?

Good investment? $200-300 in real money or 160-240 in fake money. Street value is $500-600U.S. or 400-485 Euros.

Somewhere along the way its been hit which explains the replacement fork and headset. The frame looks OK. My investment estimate is low because all of the parts have rust speckling including the frame.

You are in the right ballpark then! Would make a decent rider at that price. I ride my son's Super to work almost every day, and I enjoy the bike.

I missed on a very similar, near showroom quality, Super last winter for $500.

Also, check under that blue tape for any signs of dt buckling. Walk away if it has frame issues.

To your original question, what do I think of this bike? I think it is really beat. That can be good news if you are looking for a project, as it will greatly depress the price. Around here, no one will touch a beat bike, unless it is cheap, really cheap. If you are willing/able/and ready to do the refurbishment, that can make it a deal.

+1 Just recognize that this bike was very likely wrecked at one point (no one wants to buy wrecked bikes either). Inspect it carefully, and make your offer based on what the parts are worth. Too many red lights going off on this one: odd replacement fork, rust, MTB headset, bad tires, etc.

Make sure stem and seat post are not stuck. I am always cautious when I see a stem that low on a bike.

All this here makes me doubt that I really want to buy this bike.

But here is an other history: I drowe 2 hours today to go see and buy an other Colnago Super. It was in really really good shape with full Campy Nuevo Record, cinelli bars etc.
The Frame was outstanding with polished lugs on the front tube. I guess this makes the bike even more worth!

Well, I saw it in an Ebay auction with only one crapy picture of it where you really have to look close to see that its a Colnago. Despription was , i translate, " Road Bike", "good condition".
The auction was at 15 euros so I sent a message to tell him I would buy the bike for 190 euro since it was obvious that the seller has no idea what he has in his hands.

He called me and told me he`d be interested. I should come over to have a look at the bike and if I would still be willing to buy the bike he accepts my price.

I made me on the way then for a 1.45 minutes drive. 20 minutes before I arrive he calls me again and says I should not come over since he don`t want to cancel the auction.
He was so agitated and told me that just 2 minutes ago 2 guys went to visit to have a look at the bike. They then wanted it that much that they almost got into a fight for who
has the right to buy it. The last offer one of them made before the seller kicked them out was 450 euros or so.

I told the seller that I could understand that he hasn`t any interest in selling the bike to me now that he knows that it`s quit a juwel. I decided to go see him however only
to have a closer look at the bike.
Once arrived and checked out the bike, he told me that he has an other frame in the cellar. I went down with him and began his search. Luckily for me he found this nice SPIN weelset and
told me I could have it for free. As an appolize that I came for nothing. I said " Oh, if it`s for free I`ll take them" What do you think of them? I think they are quick expensive on ebay or CR, no?
They are in very very good shape. Just don`t know yet what to do with them.
After that he found the Frame. It was a Nos MTB frame from mid 90`I guess. Will post a picture tomorrow and I don`t remember the name now. But I am sure that somebody wants to buy it for a little
money Well, I got it for 10 euros.

I am still very disapointed that I didn`t make the deal for the century with the colnago but in the other way I am also happy to have this stuff now without paying for it. And who knows, maby I still win the
ebay auction. =)

Have no idea about those wheels, but that Colnago pictured, even if the fork is garbage and has issues, is a good investment at 200 to be parted out and sold part by part.

I thought about doing this and buy the colnago I missed today with the money I might raise. Any Idea what they are worth? On ebay I can only find MTB or BMX spins. Not one Road Bike Spin wheel there

So I am still looking for a colnago and found a pretty decent one.
It is the same as pictured on this link but is equiped campa nuovo record and there
are not Pantos on the parts. The frame is exactly the same. Even same color.

https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3435/...3cdb3bed7c.jpg

How far can I go? What would be reasonable to pay for such a Colnago?

ps: it is in a very very good shape.

#1: Don't buy a bike as an investment, unless it's a dirt-cheap Confente. You're going to lose money 95% of the time.

#2: The first example is a restorable example, and a bad one at that - soon as the original fork is gone, kiss away a good 30-50% of the value. The rust isn't good either - that's under-paint rust from bad pre-prepwork; I've seen it more than once on '70s-'80s Colnagos. Once you have as much as the example above has, it'll continue to rust further; i.e., you're looking at a repaint job.
