I have been offered a 1972 (?) Chrome P-15 Paramount for $800, I have lusted after one for a while....fair deal? It is a P15 22" frame all chrome paramount. Triple chain rings (54-45-36). Campy record cranks, front derailuer, shift levers, head set, seat post and bottom bracket & axle. Gran Compe side pull brakes and shift levers. Original equipment also includes Brooks Pro leather saddle & Weinman 27 1/4 rims.

I'd do a very thorough inspection to see how extensive the rust damage is. Has it been cleaned up for sale purposes? If it has the rust will come back very quickly.

+1 Rust in the bottom bracket area may well mean sloppy rust cleanup (like some abrasive). If so, the rust will return quickly, as it is not really gone.

I bought it. lol He's having health issues and is selling off some of his bikes. He made me a package deal so I bought a complete Campy NR group, the P15 and a '87 Waterford Paramount with C-Record.

The P15 hasn't been cleaned, what's the best plan to address what appears to be surface rust and prevent it from getting worse? Obviously the decals have been removed as well.....Waterford the best place to get these?

lol....the Waterford is too tall for me, I'm going to put the C-Record on the '87 Waterford Paramount frame I already have. The one I just bought is the emerald greenish/bluish color (don't know the name) and is 24".

Mark, the '87 with C-Record should be really nice.

Coincidentally, I have a 24" '72 chrome P15-9 and a 62cm '87 Waterford (originally Emerald Green, but I had it repainted Ferrari Red). My '87 has the 7-speed 7400 Dura-Ace group, and frankly I think the C-Record would be a big improvement.

Now the question I know I'm asking and I think everyone else may be thinking is... how much? (if you don't mind) Also for cleaning chrome, assuming there is no clear cloat, I found the crumpled aluminum foil and lemon juice did the trick for removing surface rust.

Oxalic acid, there is no substitute. Pretty easy to spot treat that small area, particularly since you plan to disassemble the bike anyway.

@Scooper Thanks Stan! I will take your word that the C-Record will be better than the Dura Ace. I like Campy anyway...no offense to Dura Ace guys *dons flame ******ant suit* lol

@5cagm Thanks for the tips on the rust...it seems to be a light surface rust. I will know more later. I also got the original tool kit that came with the bike. He is the original owner and I believe the serial number is L7223. The '87 is C-Record except he opted to go with Record brakes....didn't like the Delta's. The Nuovo Record Group came off of bike that had been used sparingly....the RD has a '83 Patent Date. I will use this on my '84 Trek 660 frame. I also got some other parts such as bar-con shifters, NOS white Weiman hoods, cables etc.

@wrk101 I thought Oxalic acid would be the way to go, but wanted to ask for opinions. Thanks for the help.
