Can someone help me value a 1997 Giant MCR Two TT?
Hi, just picked up a Giant MCR 2 TT bike. It is in excellent shape with almost no visible scratches. It has sat for a while so I am having the cabling redone and the bars re wrapped.. Can anyone tell me what I should ask for it if I decide to sell? I love to ride but this one is a little specialized for me personally. It has all the original equipment and is complete
I have looked in several places but I just cant seem to find a good sales history of this bike so I need a reasonable starting place.
Thanks Brian
Sorry for the poor picture, here is a link to the larger size https://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/...faf7c08d_b.jpg This is on the rack at the local Giant shop for a full cleaning, cables and wraps.

No idea, but the bike has a CF frame, and full Ultegra 8sp STI system. Original list was $2200. bikepedia specs are here.
I think that for a 13 year old bike the value could well be about 25-30% of original price (that's pretty much my rule of thumb for high end modern bikes), so you are looking at $500-750 or so, all systems go and in ready to race condition.

Me too To tell you the truth, I would not even drop more than the value of the parts on any 13 year old CF frame...
but the triathlon crowd that is looking at a new modern entry level aluminum Tri bike with Sora/Tiagra for $1300, would jump all over it at $500.

Its a pretty obscure bike. Around here, I would be parting it out and selling it piecemeal on ebay as there would be minimal local buyers. Normally, I would use the 25% of original MSRP as a target. In fact, I had a posting with that same figure, but deleted it after checking the bike on bikepedia. In this case, I think it would be less, due to the uniqueness. The serious racing crowd tends to want the latest and greatest. The recreational racing crowd would be looking for something cheaper. But piece meal, you probably would do better than that mark.

Thanks guys for the feedback, it is certainly appreciated. Couple questions -why aren't there many of these for sale? Was this a short run? If they were not desirable I would expect to see a lot of history with sales in the $400 range... Right now I cant really find anyone actually trying to sell this bike. I wish i could find some eBay history on this item. Anywhere else you recommend I look for sales estimates? Thanks again for sharing your experience. Best regards Brian

Problem with ebay history is that it only goes back a few weeks. So an item does not have to be very obscure to not have any history. I searched for Miyata 1000 for example, there was only one listed in completed items. Better off searching for SIMILAR bikes, like "carbon triathlon", then you will find 32 bicycles listed. Or search for something even broader. Then do the same thing with one of the Craigs List search engines. That will not show you completed items, but will show you the "competition". Then maybe visit a tri shop.

Selling your MCR??
Just curious if you sold this bike or decided to keep it?
The reason there aren't many of these around is because the UCI and USA Cycling banned all but traditional "Diamond" frames from road competition shortly after this frame made it's debut. It is still legal for triathlons, however. Also, the frame design/construction was notorious for cracking at the bottom bracket, especially when used by heavier riders.. 170 lbs. or more...
Please let me know if you're selling this bike as I would be interested. Thanks!
