Best Way to Sell--As a Frame or as a Complete Bike?
I recently sold two Raleigh Mixte Frames (both were made in Taiwan). One was a complete bike and the other was only a frame. Both sold for essentially the same price--$60 on ebay. As I am getting ready to sell another mixte frame, what is the best way to sell it--as a complete bike or as a frame?
The bike is a Peugeot Mixte (Serial number: Y405 12000). If I can get the same money for a frame as opposed to a complete bike, I am better served in selling the frame alone. However, if a complete Peugeot mixte substantially increases the value, I will gladly sell the bike. What has been your experience?
Also, as a secondary question, what do you think the bike is worth?
Thanks!
Update: I sold the frame and fork on ebay for $76 to someone in Nevada. Thanks.

Thank you for your fast response. You confirmed what I already had in mind. I've already stripped the frame down and am ready to post it. Thank you very much!

Be nice & include the seatpost since it may be an odd size.

I have sold multiple Peugeot mixtes in clean, ready to ride condition (complete bikes) for $200 +/-. For bikes under about $300, in my experience, Craigs List is your best option. And Craigs List is best suited for complete bikes, as C/L buyers tend to be looking for something ready to ride (or are buyers like me, looking for red hot deals on bikes that need work). Savvy buyers on ebay discount their bids by the shipping charges, so the lower end bikes tend to sell for as much (or more) locally, without the hassles of shipping. And unfortunately, almost all mixtes are low end/lower end, so the components aren't worth much if anything as a part out.
Selling a bare frameset on Craigs List tends to be almost a give away, so I only do it on donor bikes.
Mixtes have a good following, I always sell them complete. Typical buyer is a female college student, my last two went to two roommates.

Great advice! Unfortunately, in the Detroit market, mixtes are not highly sought. I don't believe that I could sell it anywhere near $200 in this market. There was a Peugeot mixte with new tires, lights and generator, fenders and a rack that was posted on Craigslist for over two months before the owner took it to ebay. (I bought the men's companion bike to the mixte--see photo). They were asking $120 and it didn't sell. The bike eventually sold on ebay as a local pickup for $90. I alway feel somewhat guilty when I strip a bike down, but for my context, I believe selling it as a frame is my best option. I don't believe that craigslist will bring me near as much money as ebay. Thanks so much. Your advice is great! This forum is great and I have been helped beyond measure! (Also, I always include the seatpost with the frame)
