    1998 AMP B4, F4 fork, Disc MTB

    Have owned since new in 98. It's in exceptional condition - frame is straight, no dents or dings, all pivots are tight, disc brakes work properly, F4 fork shocks do not leak. Also have rear pivot rebuild kit, as well as F4 fork rebuild kit. Everything works as it should. All XTR with Kooka brake levers, Thompson seatpost, Bontrager carbon saddle, and Ibis titanium handlebar.

    Looking for Feedback on approximate dollar value I might expect. Paid approximately 5k when new. I was thinking around 1k? Am I being overly optimistic?

    Any help appreciated.

    Unless you locate the right guy, yes you are optimistic. mtb's depreciate fast, due to expected use, neglect, and advancement of component design.

    As an example, it has discs, but if they are XTR, the locals here will downgrade for that.
    This kind of goes for everything, condition, and utility.

    I have an Amp B-2, fun, but just above worthless at present, maybe in another 15 years... As an example, early Ritchey or Fisher bikes are getting notice now.

    +1, Mountain bikes are judged as they compare to todays bikes. There are a few exceptions that get attention because of their long following, such as the Stumpjumper, but those are exceptions. Most MTBs are valued based on how they perform compared to a new bike. Vintage or classic doesn't matter in most instances.
    There was a 1992 TREK 8500 with fully operating Rock Shox air shock, XT shifters, LX derailers and XT crank listed on CL for $140 around here. I know the seller. It got a couple of hits and thats all.
    Dual suspension bikes really take a beating because the technology has advanced so much in such a short time. I'm certain of one thing, you might be better off parting out the bike. Vintage XT and XTR 8 speed still bring good dollars on ebay.

    +1 Most vintage and classic MTBs have minimal value, except for a few exceptions. Really nice ones go cheap. Great value for buyers IMHO, lousy return for sellers. If you want to hassle with parting it out, that will give you the best return.

    Thanks for the feedback - even though it's not exactly what I want to hear.
