1987 Schwinn Paramount

Hi all,

I'm going to check out a 1987 Waterford built schwinn paramount I found on craigs this month. I am assuming this guy is legit since he boasts of his receipts and original manuals. I don't have a sn yet. Other than the sn, and any possible flaws I couldn't see in the pics he sent me, this bike look gorgeous it's been well maintained and the owner has only put 2500 miles on it. It almost has a full life ahead of it.

He's asking for 900 dollars and if the frame fits I may be inclined to purchase as I currently don't have a road bike I thought this would be an awesome first true road bike.

I am 6'2" and roughy 320lbs so that's the big push for steel. The frame is 57 cm. I'll test it out tonight but am looking for some guidance. Any comments would be much appreciated!

If there is a pm option I can fwd you the pics if one wanted to see them.

Thanks!!

your 6'2" and looking at a 57? I would think it is a bit small unless yu ony have a 31" inseam. I am a statuesque 5'9" and ride a 59. on a classic horizontal TT bike I would think a 61 would be abetter fit.

I'm not one of the Schwinn experts here, but I think $900 is a little pricey. Unless you have short legs for your height, it''s too small.

And again, at 6', I ride a 59cm, and it's a little smaller than I'd like.

Thanks for the feedback!

And yes I know 57 sounds small for a 6'+ guy but my heights in my torso and yes I actually do have a 31" inseam.

I agree about the price. I was think 700 would be the high end for price. it's only the standard version but it looks really great.

I don't know that I'll purchase it but I will go meet the guy and check it out. Thanks for the feedback again!

I stopped by to check out the Paramount yesterday...let's just say an "I told you so" is warranted.

Just looking at it, I knew it was far too small and with how the guy had it set up (smaller stem and limited travel in the seat post) it was even difficult to get down the street.

And then just to be sure I measured my inseam the way it's suggested in I believe Sheldon Brown's website and I'm actually at 32.5 a whole inch more than I thought. You all were right, but it was cool to check out.

Thanks!
