1981(?) Raleigh Cherry
My boyfriend and I rescued (honestly rescued - the BART police had clipped the lock!) an abandoned girl's bike from the BART station a few months ago. We'd like to sell it, but neither one of us can find anything about this model.
It is a Raleigh Cherry, 18" frame marked with "Made in England" label. Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub stamped 81. 20" steel rims marked "Raleigh - made in France 440-20 (550A)." Tires (original) are also made in France. The bike is in good condition, with just a bit of surface rust on the handlebars (the bike was under cover at the station). I've only taken one picture (with a close-up of the Cherry decal on the upper left of the photo), but if any other photos would help, just let me know! http://www.warsweb.com/bike-forums/Raleigh-Cherry.JPG |
In my experience, this bicycle would not bring much. 20" wheels indicate a child's bicycle and most parents aren't willing to sink much money into a bicycle their kid will grow out of in a year or two. Odd sized, difficult to find tires will also be a drawback. Clean it up and take whatever you can get for it.

cute bike but it looks big. those are really 20" wheels? it seems odd to me that a kids bike would have pump pegs.
if the tires are 20x1.75 look in local shops for new clean whitewalls. clean it up real nice and if you can't sell it give it to a program that gives toys and bikes to needy kids and C&V members LOL |
