what's it worth: univega supra sport 62cm frameset
hi.
a friend has a spare univega supra sport from the 80's. It's a frame/fork/headset/couple other components type of situation. Black, with red decals. Triple butted chromoly tubes. He's pretty much chopped it for components for his viscount, but we were looking at it, and it's a pretty nice frame-- if only we knew someone tall enough. Is it worth putting it on CL, and if so, how much?
TY.

A lot is going to depend on the market around you. Any universities or large cities nearby? The two things that are not going to help is the size and the time of year. Winter sucks for selling bikes often. Parts and/or framesets can be an easier sell since many people are looking for or finishing winter projects. Without any pics I personally would put it up between $50-100 for the frameset. Lower end if the paint is a little more beat up than regular wear and tear over the years.
Edit: And wait to put it up until after Christmas. Many people get money from relatives (I know I do) so they might be in a spending mood. I often do well on the local CL after Christmas and during the month of January.

Depends on your C/L, around here, $50 is about it. Not much response to framesets. All markets are different. Hopefully yours is better. Paint needs to be really good.

Size is a major limiting factor. Those of us who ride big frames have a much easier time finding the cool stuff, and although the Univega sounds nice, you can find something really nice in that size range very cheaply with a bit of effort. The 50-100 estimates sound right, but don't be surprised if it doesn't even move at that.

i'd be listing it on the philly craigslist; though we're in NJ, we're only about 6 miles from the Ben Franklin bridge. Lots of framesets offered on CL here, but i think i'm the main guy buying them. We were just thinking that it's a nice frame, and it'd be a shame to see it wasted, but the only tall guys i know don't want any projects...
I think the bikes owner would be thrilled to get $50, regardless. Prolly list it at $100, and take anything $50+?

ps-i figured the truly tall ppl would be thirsting for 62cm frames. Seems like we mostly have 52-56cm frames from that era/of that style, and i have trouble finding the 57-58cm frames that i now crave.

Trust me. 62cm frames are hard to sell, easy to buy. Last time I went to T-town, I had no fewer than three dealers, all of whom know I buy big frames, stop me to offer wares. The infield at T-town has plentiful big frames. I've never had that much trouble finding them.

I'm guessing he's talking Trexlertown. It's a favorite in your neck of the woods.
