    1982 Trek 950

    bought this frame in 1983. Equipped it with Avocet (52-42) cranks, suberbe pro derailluers and brakes and Weinmann 27" wheels. Fork is not original. rest is Columbus and I have new
    columbus stickers. Ride it mostly with ambrosio 700c's with sewups. Have a set of GL-330's with CX's that I used to race on and I put on to sell it. Current crankset is a Mavic 52-39 with superbe pro sealed bb.
    Also have a nuevo record that works. 60cm Should I quit riding this bike (it's got about 100k on it) or sell it. The 950 was one of trek's first racing bikes. Frame is in great condition.

    I don't understand, the bike sounds hot, why would you think that you should stop riding it?
    Half of the time I fear I may not know what the hell Im doing; the other half, Im sure of it.

    I've got 6 bikes and am moving cross country. Actually, I'm probably going to sell my 3-V instead.
    It's a piece of art and has equally eccentric components incuding a Jubilee rear derailluer and Roval wheels.

    The Treks' got at least 125K miles and that Brooks saddle is really comfortable.
    Just thought I might get an idea of what it could fetch. Don't know if
    I could really part with it. Did my best racing with that bike. Broke 55 minutes
    in a 40K (I was young) on it with a trick 28 spoke Ararya track wheel on the front.
    Just like a family heirloom.

    You'll be hard-pressed for anyone to commit to a selling value without photos here. But IMO, you'd get closer to the 'worth' of the bike on ebay with lots of good photos and a good narrative description. On craigs, it's hard to gather enough of the right 'eyes', unless you have a 'lot' of time. I don't know your area, but in mine, it would sell for upwards of 300 like most nice Treks. The GL-330's are a little too fragile for general purpose riders. It sounds like you are emotionally wrapped-up in this bike, which make for a 'bad' seller position.

    Wow. That's a lot of miles and an incredibly fast race; even for a young guy :>)

    K means kilo, means 10^3, so you need to add 3 more zeros to the number.
    125K=125,000 miles
    40K=40,000 miles

    a 3-V with eccentric components? too bad I just spent way too much one a XXXXXXXXX or I would really be interested. of course since I am in PA and you would have to bring the bikes east with you to get it to me, that would defeat the purpose of selling it

    Years ago, I had a chance to buy a brand new Nuevo Record equipped Bianchi for around $700.00. Wish I had.
    Anyway, the MASI has other stuff like a recently installed Regina 8Sp RD to better shift the Regina 7 speed 12-20.
    It does and I was able to keep the Superbe Pro down tube shifters. FR is a Mavic (824?) braze on, Suguino 75 (two tone brushed AL and black)
    brakes, Nuevo record seatpost and BB, Swift TI rail saddle. SR crankset with 54-41, 172.5MM, Vitus aluminum fork. Weird, Huh?
    Got a silver medal (40+) in the state TT on it in 1990 (58.13 on 40KM); raced the Tour de los Alamos on it in 2004.
    Guess I'll be taking this one with me too. Pix is from 2003.

    To get the most for the Trek, you need to dig up the original fork if at all possible. If the bike is complete and original (meaning including the original fork), then it is collectible. With the replacement fork, the collectible value drops like a rock, and then you have a really nice vintage rider.

    And as others have pointed out, without world class full sized pictures, and ebay, you are unlikely to get anything close to full market value out of it.

    Taking it with you looks like a GREAT decision IMHO. If I had this much time and history with a bike, you would have to pry my fingers off of it. As a minimum, it would be mounted proudly on the wall in my family room (but personally, I would just ride it every once in a while instead).
