I asked for more pictures. Seller says it was from around 1977, lugged steel, less than 50 miles. I couldn't find much information the bike online. Isn't 600 what turned into Ultegra? What's a fair price for a buyer?

Back then, you could find 600 components on bikes sold at Sears. It was not nearly has expensive a component group as now. All the Vistas I have seen were entry level to a step above entry level.

I figured the bike was about entry level quality, but I thought the components would be worth more than the bike. Good think you schooled me. So is the 600 group in general not worth as much or was it just the 600 group of that era not worth as much? Is it comparable to Ultegra now or about the level of Sora?

IMHO, it is not comparable to either. Modern SORA is pretty good, and of course, the shifters sell for quite a bit. Modern brake calipers are dual pivot, even the SORA ones are pretty decent. A lot of vintage components are available cheap, really cheap. There are a lot of versions of vintage 600, some are more desirable than others. Some had really nice appearance, so called Arabesque, which is pretty nice.

As a practical component for every day use, I prefer Suntour stuff. Most of the Suntour stuff is very affordable, very durable, good looking, etc.

Assuming it has alloy rims, parts may be worth more than the complete bike. I buy a fair number of donor bikes, bikes that have decent components and alloy wheels, but often have cosmetic issues.

Updated with some pics. The price went up to $400 and seller claims there are others interested, but I am first in line. Shimano 600, as state, and what looks like Araya 631 tubing that I'm not familiar with.

Pretty nice condition, barcons are nice too. $400 is crazy price wise.

Araya is an aluminum rim manufacturer. My commuter happens to be a 1977 araya frameset. Common Japanese made frame.
