Torpado Super Strada

Checked ClassicRendezvous and this looks like a nice mid-high end model from Torpado. I remember seeing and admiring Torpados in the 1980's and this one might be an appropriate candidate to fill my open "classic 70's / 80's road bike" slot in my stable.
I think I will look at it this weekend. The standover is right at the edge of workable for me, but I'd like to see if the "French fit" works for me

The price seems fair - I might offer $475. What say the retro value gurus?
BTW - cranks and pedals would be Ofmega, not Campy, assuming this bike is still stock

The seller doesn't say what the frame tubing is, which could make a difference in the pricing. In my opinion, after looking at the ad and pics, I think the price is fair, and depending on tubeset, possibly under priced. If it's Columbus SL or above, and no dents, I'd say that the ballpark of 500 would be a very nice price for the buyer. If it was me, I'd be very interested in what wheelset it has.

According to the catalog cut sheet from the era the tubing is Columbus Aelle "R", which I see is the entry level Columbus of the day. Rolled/seamed, straight gauge. The pic in the cut sheet looks to be a match https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...o_s_strada.htm

The same cut sheet indicates Campy Tipo hubs with Ambrosio Elite rims. https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...pado_specs.htm

I spent this past Fall in East Idaho and would routinely watch the SLC craigs. The bikes there appeared to me to be similarly priced as the Bay Area. Although the straight gauge tubing would have normally turned me off, I just built a Lotus with straight gauge Tange 5 and I was quit surprised how light it was and how compliant the ride was. I might use that point to talk the seller down a bit.

I have never ridden Tipo hubs, but I have Ambrosia rims, and I liked them a lot. In combination with the Campy Nuovo D's and panto'd Ofmega crank, I think 450-475 would be in the range that I would think is fair. The deal killer for me would be the condition of the frame. I hate dealing with frames with lots of paints chips and scratches, although that color would be easier to find a match for than some. A little rust here and there is fine because it is easily removed and you can use it as a negotiation point.
