peugoet px10 vs schwinn super letour 12.2
which of these two vintage bikes is the best bike? I have a choice of buying ether the 1975 peugoet px10 or the 1979 schwinn super le tour 12.2. both bikes are $200 and they both are in great condition with original components.

1. Do they fit, does one fit better than the other?
2. A lot of Peugeots are falsely presented as PX10s. About 75% or more of the newbie PX10 questions are on UO8s. I don't know what it is about the PX10 model in particular, but it is the worst for mis-identification. Assuming it is really a PX10, it will have a lot more value than the LeTour 12.2, at least 50% more, probably more. PX 10 is a very desirable model, despite the typical french compatibility nuances. Just make sure it is really a PX10. There are several sources of on line catalogs.

Super LeTours are really nice bikes. Easy to work on with standard parts that are easily replaced or upgraded as needed. Peugeot on the other hand has many unique french threaded parts which are a little more tricky to work on and replace when it becomes necessary.
$200 for a PX-10 is a real bargain. In good original condition they regularly sell for upwards of $500. A Super Letour pretty much tops out at $200. If its in very good condition with excellent paint maybe a bit more. To a casual observer a Peugeot UO-8 looks like a PX-10, especially if its white, and for some reason more people know the PX-10 model designation. The UO-8 is a nice model unto itself but the value is much less, perhaps $150 in good condition. And there are some who look for UO-8s as they have a certain french charm to them.
Getting a true ID on the Peugeot is required here, before you make a decision.

The peugeot px10 turned out to be a peugeot a08 The guy selling the peugeot did not know anything bout bikes, he suggested it was a px10, but after close inspection I noticed it had fully enameled forks and small flange hubs, the bike is blue, and I didnt see a reynolds 531 sticker ether. Well, it's a peugeot a08 model.Maybe I'll get the bike anyway, it's a nice clean looking bike, but the guy wants $200 firm.

That bike would sell for a 175-200 asking price here, and a sale price of 125-150 IN GOOD SHAPE.

AO8 for $200? Major pass on that one.
The LeTour 12.2 is 2X that bike.
Another PX10 mystery solved.....

$200 to buy a mis-identified bike from someone who doesn't know what he's doing? I'd pass. There is absolutely no way I'd pay more than $75 for that bike btw...you simply don't know what may or may not be wrong with it and if it's from someone who doesn't know what he's doing, I;d assume a lot is wrong. Repairs and replacement parts can become a real PITA for French bikes.

Kon Aaron's in a hot market, too. Here? Maybe 100$, if it fits and is in really nice shape, and is not a large frame. Maybe.
Lots of issues, including cotters, etc. And the seller doesn't sound particularly on the ball.
