1984 trek 610 frame - what's a fair asking price?
How much do you think is a fair asking price for this frame, headset and fork? 49cm, 531cs tubing, Stronglight B-Hinault headset. weighs about 6lbs. structurally sound and no major rust issues but paint has seen better days

Smaller size frame is always good, someone is always looking for road bike frames for their kids. I would ask $100 but go as low as $75.
|
hmm i like 150 and going as low as 100  not sure what the frame market is like though. considering ebay but dont want to deal with the hassles.. but on CL you are limited by who is near by
|
You probably shouldn't give your low-limit, there are a lot of BF members in the Bay Area. As long as there is absolutely no dents, the frame overall appears straight, and if you could touch-up the paint scratches, I could see it going for upwards of 150.
|
Having a look at the Bay Area CL this morning and the prices still seem a little suppressed. Maybe 150 is a little too optimistic unless you have time on your side.

As a Bay Area BF member, I can say that nobody will really pay $150 for a steel frame. I mean, we know that it's a decent frame, but when the regular old Joe sees it, he thinks POS. Additionally, unless someone is found who knows what they're doing, just buying a frame is intimidating for a lot of people.

I had a Trek frame I wanted to sell, a 1985 660, 22 1/2" Reynolds 531cs with the Stronglight headset in VGC and nobody would touch it on CL. Not for a reasonable asking price anyway.
I had bought it on CL for a really good price but it was too small for me. Had to go to the ripbay and got $175 for it. Now that ebay charges a percentage for your shipping charge + final value I may not be selling any more items with $50 to $80 shipping and give them a cut of money that is going to Fedex. I will just lower the price on CL or sell to BF members. The ebay policy is SUPPOSED to stop sellers from over charging on shipping. Uh huh. :notamused:Sorry, a mini rant there. |

The seller would list a $100 item with a $0.99 buy it now, then charge $99 to ship it when the acctual shipping only cost a couple bucks. It lowers the insertion fee and the final value fee. Their new policy fixes that, but in turn screws those that ship large items. |
I picked up a complete bike just like yours, same color but 56cm for $150 shipped with really nice wheels. Good luck with your sale!
|
^ from ebay or where? sounds like you got a great deal! i'm thinking some fixie kid might buy the frame.. though if they do i hope they dont chop the derailer hanger
if it doesn't sell, i'll turn it into a complete bike with cheapo components and it'll see for sure |

Here in Hooterville, frames are at give away prices. So its fleabay, or keep it waiting for a donor. Your market is much better obviously. |

It would have been easy enough for them to monitor some categories, find the shipping charge outliers, and give them a cease or leave directive. |
