Ibex road bike, model unknown

Hey all,

New member here--I recently came across an Ibex road bike that is being sold. I can't pinpoint the model, and I only know that it is an old style bike. I was wondering whether anybody could identify it and/or give me some advice on a reasonable price. The owner claims to have recently replaced the chains, and is asking for $225. A picture is attached.

Thanks for all the help I can get!

I'm not familiar with the manufacturer, but I would say it is not worth the asking price. Stem shifters and suicide brake levers would suggest a lower end bike. Also, a new chain is likely to slip with use on an old freewheel (rear chain rings). If you test ride it, stand up and pedal hard. If it chain slips, the freewheel will also need replacing. For that price, you could buy a bike that is better quality and completely overhauled (lubed headset, lubed bottom bracket, lubed hubs, new cables, new tires and tubes, and handlebar tape). In its present condition, I would estimate the value at $80-$100 (and that's probably being generous).

I would be interested in hearing what the more experienced bike gurus would have to say.

Not a $225 bike, entry level, maybe a half step up from entry.

Rear brake cable routing is really wild.

Thanks for the help, it was really useful. Not really knowledgeable about bikes and wanted to make sure I wasn't being jipped. Many thanks!
