Hi,
i got these two bikeframes on Friday.
The first one is a Gitane with Nervex lugs. It seems to have been build up completely with campagnolo which isn`t that common for french bikes.

It looks really nice and is in great condition and has no rust or other damage.

What can you tell me about this frame? What is it worth?
I guess it is from around 70`, anyone knows better? The previous owner said something that this frame is a Coppi frame, but I don`t really understand what a gazelle has to to with Coppi....



The second frame is from what I was told a Cinelli which has been repainted. I also doubt that it`s the original fork, but I am not sure.
The paintsheme is not my favorite but after a little dusting the frame looks new again.

Can anyone tell me if this is really a Cinelli, if yes, which Model and from what year?
Does the frame has some value left or not because of the repaint?

second bike is almost surely not a Cinelli. Cinelli made and sold framebuilding parts with the Cinelli logo to huge numbers of framebuilders. The fork might be original. There is a visible gap on the bb shell in one of your pictures. That and the way the seat post slot was cut say production frame to me.

other than the scary bb brazing, it looks like a nice frame.

I'm no Gitane expert, but I have seen pictures of all Campagnolo "Gitanes" being ridden in the TdF. I assume they marketed bikes that mimicked that.

Depends on how you look at it. It was not common for French builders to use Campagnolo throughout their lineup. But many had a Campagnolo-equipped top or upper-end model - Motobecane, Gitane, Lejeune, Mercier all spring to mind. Peugeot was the obvious exception during much of the classic era.

The graphics on the Gitane are not in concert with the lack of braze ons. The workmanship appears pretty tidy too... I would like to know if it has French or Italian threads. I really doubt English. The seat post diameter it will accept too. Small chance the fork is not original, note no fender eyes up front and with them at the rear.

The other bike is much more generic appearing to me.

Correct, nor may be the paint. The details of the frame are not typical Gitane, nor is the fork. the fork has no eyelets, the frame does, (kind of surprising, the details of the frame appear better than most) While the BB shell is not very well dressed, the head lugs have seen a file, not enough to correct the shoreline foibles but not raw either.

No answer on the threading type, so no help there yet.

For a frame with the lack of braze ons this frame exhibits I would expect the earlier gitane "turquoise" not the blue seen here.
