raliegh grand prix and american flyer coaster brake
 

saw these two at a garage sale for cheap but did not buy them. They both would need a lot of cleaning and reconditioning.

the black on blue raliegh said nottingham england on the front and I could make out a 3 on the frame sticker possibly 20-30 for tubing, the seat stays wrap around the seat tube collar. Decent england leather seat not brooks with 3 holes punched out in the top. Lots of steel on this bike including cotter cranks simplex parts and steel rims. The most interesting thing about this 60's early 70's looking bike was the rear steel hub had two sets of threads on the non drive side and thats what really got my interest in thinking this might be a rare find. The lugs were not very pretty looking in the fit and finish category as compared to most 70s-80s run of the mill road bikes.

The red american flyer was cheap looking but looked like one of those possibly crappy looking but rare/expensive bikes. Single speed coaster brake , and a chainguard intact. standard frame like most ten speeds.

So are these things worth anything in cleaned up shape?

Depends where you live, who does the work, and how resourceful you are at scrounging parts. Myself, I skip them as the return is minimal for my time. Takes the same $ in parts and the same amount of time to. Work on a bottom end bike as something decent.

How much was the Raleigh, they usually clean up great.
