Build up Raleigh Technium or buy Schwinn Le Tour?

I have the frame and wheelset (no derailer, shifters, brakes, etc.) for an old Raleigh Technium.

I have spotted a reportedly fully restored and original 1974 Schwinn Le Tour for $350.

Both are exactly my size but I'm on an super low budget and I would have to turn the Raleigh into a slapped together conversion and sell it to afford the Schwinn. ( I have all the parts lying around to do that )

Alternatively I could buy derailers, shifters, brakes, and spend about the same about on new components to build up the Technium as a road bike again. They would have to be the cheapest available though as I need almost all the components.

Advice please!

$350 is a crazy price for any Le Tour, even in Portland

How about $275 for a 1982 Bridgestone Altair or $150 for a 1980 Lotus Special? (both in good condition) / What would a good price for such bikes be?

I have a Raleigh Technium and think its a nice bike. I prefer it to the Le Tour. I would build it up. Used parts equivalent to the overpriced Schwinn should be well under $100.

If I had a $350 bike budget, my answer would be neither of those two bikes. $350 can get you some really high end vintage bikes.

Rather than toss out a lot of other bikes, I would do some study via Google, and you will be able to quickly spot the good deals!

what kind of bike are you looking for? recreation, comuting, groups rides, ride with the kids? how tall are you?

for $400 you can go new 'Retro' road bike https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...e_xi_steel.htm

this is small but looks like a good deal, https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/2453914083.html

road bikes are slim pickins but if your looking for a commuter or bike to ride the neighborhood with the kids there are lots of MTBs on CL

Thanks all. Decided to build up the Raleigh, use it for a while, and upgrade when I have a bigger budget.
