Should I trade for this Condorde SLX?
 

Hi, I'm a newbie here and have been browsing through the forums and you guys are experts :) Well I'm looking to trade in my Dahon MU SL Sport for a road bike. I love the Dahon but for the distance I do each day, the wheels are just too small. So I put it up for sale or trade. I got it for around $750 and maybe rode it 20 times max and its in great condition. So now I'm putting it up for trade or sale of $650. A local guy is offering me his Concorde SLX PDM color road bike with full campy kit (bike is disassembled right now). I'm wondering how much this bike is worth and is it a decent trade? Any advice would help since I'm not a vintage bike guy.:thumb:

Which Campy kit is he assembling it with? Is it your size? How do you know it is SLX?

There are a few different versions of PDM bikes and the one in the photos looks similar but it also looks kind of rough. The lugs are very pedestrian as is the paint, indications that this might be a lower end model, not an SLX frame.

Ask him what the seatpost size is. Ask him what it says on the top tube near the head tube. Are you in Canada? I ask because many Concordes were "assembled" in Canada but "designed" in Italy.

Around here, I would be all over that deal. Regardless of what you originally paid for the Dahon, and its minimal use, Dahons bring very little here. I sold one two weeks ago, had to basically give it away. SLX road bikes are sweet.

Assuming the bike does not have any serious hidden damage, when you make this trade, I will nominate you for "deal of the month"!!

did you trade yet? if the Concorde fit I certainly would.

No trade yet guys, but I did take a look at it yesterday. It had pedals on it but no chain just so that I can sit on it and see how it feels. Standing over it with my feet flat on the floor, the top tube was pretty close to "my boys" but I don't think its a big deal, maybe :twitchy: The frame, to my layman eyes, looked good except for some slight scratches, of course, and there were no squeaks when I bounced on it.. So as far as I know, its a solid bike. I told him that I do like the bike and that I am willing to trade, but I need for it to be assembled and ridden before I can make a final descision. He was fine with it and gave me the option of taking it to my own bike shop and he'll pay the costs. Pretty stand up guy. He also had some other really nice vintage road bikes, but I forget the names of them.

Jet: I'm not sure what campy set is on it, but its not what is in the pictures you posted. I Wish it looked that nice :love: Brakes were much different (smaller) and the derailer was a Shimano Ultegra 600- he said he will try to find the campy derailer for me if I wanted it. I also don't know how to verify the SLX frame, I'll ask what it says on the top tube since I did not pay attention to that when I looked at the frame. I'll also check on the seatpost size.

Sounds good. I asked about the seat post size because SLX is always 27.2mm. Definitely try to get the matching rear derailleur.

Some thoughts
Make sure that the wheel set is the same size as the ones you are going to be riding and that they are totally inflated when checking out the standover height. Your "boys" may just thank you for it one day.

Definately get matching derailers, brakes etc. if at all possible. Ultegra is nice but not a match for the rest of the bike.

Well the guy never got back to me on the derailer so on to the next one.... I decided to just go out and buy an affordable bike and ended up with a
Schwinn Cutter! Really nice simple bike I don't have to worry about. I'll keep my Dahon for the weekends until I find a buyer.. Thanks for alll the hlp guys.
