Zebrakenko

A lady friend came by today and gave me this bike that's been in the shed at her beach house for ages. I put air in the ancient tires and rode it up my street. Still rides pretty good! It has Sugino Super Maxi crank, Sun Tour derailers, DiaCompe side pull brakes and Araya wheels. The Trek vintage site says it was built in 1980 (according to the J-1 and J-8 stampings on the crank arms)...if I interpret it correctly. Anybody know what model Zebrakenko it is? Think it's worth buying a set of tires for it?

Don't ride it anymore until the bearings have been greased.

That said, it certainly looks worthy of being fixed up. I don't know much about the brand but it looks pretty good from what I can see.

Search the forum, there is information on Zebrakenko to be had. I owned (for a short time) a Zebrakenko Storm. The name on some Zebras is on the drive-side chainstay. Look there. I think the Storm was bottom rung.

It was heavy by most standards, probably 30 lbs. or so. Had some nice detailing and components were decent. Nice Sugino cranks, for example.

I'll search to see If I still have photos. Bought it and sold it a couple weeks later. I rode it several times and it just didn't trip my trigger, so to speak.

Not worth a lot but, if you are going to ride it, certainly worth the cost of a set of tires.

Tugadude, you were correct. I didn't even see it. Right in the same spot that yours says Storm, this one says Sun. I have an old Kabuki that I ride regularly so not sure if I'll invest in tires or not. Thanks.

Loving the headbadge

TugaDude 08-15-11 10:55 PM

The headbadge is actually the nicest feature of the bike. That and the Sugino cranks. Other than that, it was a tank.
