Miyata made both a 916 and 914 in 1992, both with snakeskin paint. My 914 has the snakeskin paint.

My original message was pretty terse. Let me embellish a bit. I bought the 914 as a rider. It was (and is) in excellent condition and it fit me like a glove. It had many of the characteristics and feel of my Cervelo R3 which cost almost 15x as much (made me feel like a fool). If I had known about good steel bikes at the time, I would never have bought the Cervelo.

Anyway, if the 916 is a pure race bike, then this would be a somewhat toned down version of the 916. It is still very responsive and handles very well, but probably a bit less aggressive geometry.

Unfortunately, I wrecked my shoulder last year. After two surgeries and lots of physical therapy, I have decided I will never again be comfortable on a road bike with bars below the seat and I don't want to fix it by putting a Nitto technomic stem on it. I'm feeling too old to do it justice anyway.

I just want to get a fair price for the bike and preferrably to sell direct to an appreciative buyer. I don't want to have to inflate the price to cover ebay seller fees.

So what's a fair value range for this bike?

Takes quality pictures to give an estimate. Its all about condition. You will need those same quality pictures to get full market value for the bike. If you plan to market without pictures, around here, that is about a 50% discount, probably more. Not advisable.

That paint is pretty cool. I sold 2 1992 916's in the last year. Both were 8 speed brifter bikes. Is yours all original? I am guessing Houston is a big market so there should be a fair amount of interest. I had no trouble selling on Craig's list here in SoCal and did not want to go to ebay to get more $$. Probably would have been a wash after fees, packing and shipping time.
I just wish 1 of them had fit me. What size is your 914?

I bet Socal buyers are a more appreciative group of buyers than Houston. Houston Craigslist buyers are a cheap bunch. :-)

Yes, my paint job looks like the one in your picture. I hope I it looks close to the finish shown in your picture, after I detail it.

Mine is all original except the saddle and bartape. The toeclips for the shimano pedals have been replaced with shimano OEM clips. It has a Shimano 105 group with downtube shifters - all original factory stock. It is 7 speed.

The frame is 56cm. The bottom bracket drop is pretty low, as was characteristic of the aggressive geometry. That makes the standover height a tad lower than usual.

Does your's have fender eyelets? I can't see the photos at work...or I'd have known it had the snake skin

No fender eyelets. Until I get my own pictures done, here is an exact picture from 1992 Miyata catalog of my bike. I have a different saddle and bar tape that is "carbon look" black. Otherwise, it looks just like the picture here.

If you're looking for an appreciative buyer, you have a potential one here! Keep me informed of what price you're looking for, and I guess if you're willing to ship of course. I'm supposed to have a Koga-Miyata with the red version of that finish coming from ebay, but I'm starting to wonder if it's ever showing up. I love the 914/916 too, so let me know!

I took the bike apart this week to give it a thorough detailing and also take pictures that will give a prospective buyer a very fair view of the frame condition. Please comment on frame and quality of photographs. I tried to take pictures that were accurate, rather than beauty shots. I have not done detailed shots of bike with components yet because I am running them through a cleaning bath right now.
