1987 Trek 520 value?

Hi,

I've been looking for a touring bike, and came across this Trek 520:

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bik/2561336289.html

It seems legit, but the price seems steep at $600 - especially considering this post from a couple years ago:

I've only recently gotten interested in touring bicycles (and bikes in general), and don't feel qualified to price things. But from what I've seen recently on Craigslist, it doesn't seem too unreasonable... I think this is the same bike though:

So it looks like it's been for sale for a while. Maybe it's an opportunity to haggle.

It doesn't sound like it has the original Biopace crank. How would that effect the value?

All opinions are helpful, thanks!

moved from Classic and Vintage. Price does seem a bit high

Thats a $200 to $300 bike depending on condition in most places. Add $100 for the city premium and the Trek name and $400 is a reasonable max price

I've noticed that the touring Treks have had crazy prices these days, but don't know if they've been selling. But personally I agree with the above, still seems a bit high (although that is asking price).

Someone has told people to use the term touring in their bike descriptions, whether it is a true touring bike or not. Saw a dept. store Mongoose hybrid the other day listed as "lightweight, touring bike", it is neither. The Trek 520 is a very nice bike. I agree $400.00 max in good condition.
