    Campagnolo hub & rim question? Do I cut the spokes out or not?

    Hi. I have verry little knowledge of road type equipment. I picked these up the other day in order to resell them.

    I do know that Campagnolo does sell? My question to you experts is...should I cut the spokes and take out the hub and sell that and would I sell it with the sprocket part on or take that off?

    Or do I leave it all dirty on the rim and sell it like that? Is the rim even worth keeping?

    Here is what I read inside that sprocket section, G.S....ORO...SICC...Merate...Regina

    Then on the axel thingy it says Brev Camp and on the Hub itself it says Campagnolo Record. There is 36 holes for spokes.

    On the Rim it says...Montreal Ambrosia made in Itialy then DUREX.

    So what do you guys think tear it apart and polish the hubs or just leave it dirty with rims?

    are these tubular rims? the kind you glue the tire on? the freewheel (sprocket) is or in its day was a very nice one, and Campagnolo High Flange hubs are some what sought after.

    I would suggest going to a shop and having the freewheel (FW) removed. if you simply remove the rims with the FW on, it is almost impossible to remove.

    after doing that loosen all the spokes several turns until the wheels is wobly and then cut the spokes.

    very clean the hubs may bring $40 to $60+ depending on how clean they are and the overall condition.

    The guy told me they are sewups? Whatever that means? I think you glue them.

    yes sewups arethe same as tubulars. there is little interest in used tubular wheels, so taking them apart and trying to sell the FW and hubs is the best option

    I concur w/ B'girll regarding the limited appeal of rims made for tubular tires. Just make sure you pull the freewheel before cutting the spokes, as she cautioned.

    Sew ups are higher ranked by me that clinchers. Remove the freewheel with the Correct tool or find a shop that does before you attempt the task, it has a market alone, the GS Corsa Oros were the top of the line Regina freewheel, much better than the later units till decades later. I would not cut the spokes but be slow and somewhat tedious and unwind them a turn at a time, 3 to 4 turns and you are at the hand unwind phase. To make the job easier, unwind the non drive side spokes first, as they have less tension on them to begin with. It really does not take that long. I have seen a guy who was cutting out a high flange rear wheel and chose poorly, and the flange broke.

    I must freely admit that hubs alone and the freewheel separate have more value than as a complete set of wheels. (Especially dark anno rims, the brake wear just causes the appeal to drop fast. Used rims are swap meet fodder, for relace or for stretching new tires.
