1978 Single Speed Schwinn Collegiate?
Hi All...
I have a 1978 women's (26') schwinn collegiate in pretty good condition, I'm trying to figure out a value on it, I have been told everything from $200 to 1K, I'm told this single speed all original with coaster brake is pretty rare & last week a guy stole it. I was able to get it back but now the DA needs me to give him a value on it for prosecution. I have no idea what to tell them.
Any feedback would be really appreciated.
Thanks

The bike is only worth about $200 maybe less on a quick sale in reality. As for the DA I would go on the high end $525 so he can have the option to prosecute as felony if he wants rather than just simple theft. I suspect this is what the DA wants but he can't say it out right for various legal reasons.

I doubt it would go for more than $150 on craigslist. It's most definitely not worth anywhere near a grand. $200 at the absolute max if someone had that bike in the 70s and had some sentimental attachment to it. It's not rare or expensive. Schwinn made about a zillion electro-forged bikes similar to yours over a couple decades.

I agree with FastJake. Its not rare or expensive. The bike is in great condition but they were just so widely produced and weren't the best quality that they aren't worth much. About $100 is a fair price.
