Trek 8700 early carbon mtb... value?

This is a pretty cool bike. Any idea on how much the frameset would be worth? I'm considering buying it for wheels and brakes but wouldn't need/want the frameset and would sell it, locally, through BF, or maybe ebay.

I was going to respond yesterday but didn't feel qualified. I'll give it my best.
The frame is really really cool. But IMO, $500 is too much for the bike as it sits. If it was original with all the geared components then yes, but this is a single-speed build with lots of oddball parts I personally wouldn't be interested in, especially the mis-match wheels.
If you're just looking for wheels and brakes I'd buy them individually or look elsewhere, I would not risk getting your money back on this frame.

I sold mine years ago for $400 but it had a full set of XT on it that has new brakes and no gears and one speed... seems high for that old of a bike not in perfect condition

Not worth the asking price if it had all of the original parts. Without those parts, its worth even less. MTB wheels and brakes can be found used cheap. I'd pass.
