    1997 Lemond Alpe d' Huez road bike

    Hi I'm the original owner of this bike. Thinking about swapping for a hybrid. Just had a tune up. Everything is is in good shape. But the paint is fading in a couple of places. Any idea what it's worth?

    What kind of components does it have on it? Are those DT shifters or integrated? I think that was one of the models I was looking at potentially buying at one time, but ended up choosing a Bianchi Veloce.

    Yes. It has shifters integrated into the brake levers(brifters), instead of shifters on the dowtube(see below).



    I'm not sure where you are located, but I would guess between $250-500, assuming the bike is in great shape. $250, if you are in the boonies and looking to sell local. $500 if you are in a strong market, such as San Francisco.

    OK good to know about the integrated shifter part. OK that price is kind of what I was thinking. Thinking of trading for a mountain bike or hybrid. Is Craigslist the best place to sell do you think?

    Trading on C/L eliminates 99% of your market. First, you need to find someone who wants to trade, and who has a nice MTB. Secondly, that MTB needs to be your size. Who typically has such an item? A flipper (someone who has a garage full of bikes in various styles and sizes) and who will trade an inferior MTB for your road bike.

    For instance, lets see you see an ad for the "perfect" hybrid for sale in your area. While you are attempting to make a trade, with someone who just wants to sell their bike, another buyer arrives with cash in hand. Guess who ends up with the bike?

    Instead, trade CASH for the MTB you desire, by selling your bike. You will need to brush up on your marketing, take a quality full size picture, with a neutral background, hosted by one of the on line hosting sites, and create a nice ad (no crappy small C/L picture). The difference in creating such a quality ad can be +/- 50% or more. Buyers have no imagination.

    The good news around here, with the right marketing, you will end up with extra cash in your pocket. Road/racing bikes command a hefty premium over hybrids.

    Where are you located?
    Provide the following measurements:
    Seat tube length center to center and center to top in cm's,
    not sure how much you know about bikes so ask if unsure where to measure to and from.

    Top tube length center to center in cm's.

    Standover clearance

    Know the cog and chainring counts

    Include the tire/wheel size ( 700c x 23 ? )

    Advertise it stating brifters (brake shifters) which people seem to understand.

    Drive side pics in good light with the front wheel pointing straigjt ahead.
    Side shots taken straight even from the side to reduce distortion and to avoid a debate if the fork is bent or not.
    Closer pics of the crank and the rear derailleur and dropouts.

    Go ahead and state in your ad about what you'd consider for a trade, but expect people looking to trade a lessor value bike for yours.

    I personally like Lemond bikes, and if it were mine and if it fit then you wouldn't get it from me for $250, especially with the brifters and Campy if that's what it has.

    And if you're near Milwaukee WI and want a MTB or one converted for commuting then let me know. 8)

    Seriously, though, I paid $300 for mine used in in 2003. I've upgraded all the components except the wheels and rear derailleur. I figure the components are worth more than the frame. That said, I still love mine and ride it all the time.

    I realize this post is not much help, but when I saw 1997 Lemond Alpe d' Huez in the list of new posts, I had to jump in.
