worth of 2 star Malvern Star track frame

hey u guys seem to know alot about malvern stars and i was just wondering how much a 2 star malvern star i picked up toady would be worth

Hi Daniel, by 2 star I guess you are talking about a frame with the stars cut into the head tube lugs. It could be a roadster that was ridden every day to work of school or it could have been a more up-market frame used for racing. I think they came in a variety of specifications. A photo(s) is important in this case.

Hi Daniel, I'm no Malvern Star expert but I would be guessing that your frame is a Roadster frame from the 1930's or, perhaps, the 1940's. I say a roadster frame but I probably would suggest that it is a bike that was used as a commuter to work or school. The rear stays are bolted to the main frame and the rear forks are quite long suggesting a frame that is lower down the "pecking order". Also, the overall geometry with the long top tube in relation to the shorter seat tube and the relaxed frame angles suggest a 'daily rider'.

I would guess that it originally had a footbrake and mudguards fitted as well as a steel bar and stem.

Have you tried googling "Malvern Star, Vintage, 1930's, old, etc"? There used to be a Malvern Star register online too. There used to be a Canberra bicycle museum that had a website that featured various Aust. bicycle brands and did have a fair bit of info on Malvern Stars - perhaps the website is still on line? There is a fellow that lives in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia that knows 'everything' about Malvern Stars - he had a bikeshop called 'Bicyclepassion" - perhaps you could look him up.

Also have a look at: http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/vi...575d8c39e29314

I would expect to pay $50 to $150 for the frame depending on how much I really wanted it.

Best of luck,

Gary.

+1

I am no expert but this does not look like a track bike either. Super long wheelbase, very slack headtube and seattube angles. Compare to this 1939 Schwinn Paramount: http://www.trfindley.com/flschwinn_1...0/1939_04.html

um just a few things about what u guys said the headtube and the forks are not origanal so that probaly decreases its vaule and does it decrese its value if i paint it

rickpaulos 02-21-12 02:38 PM

A track bike with brazed on pump pegs? Not a track bike.

Certainly the headtube is original. That's the part of the frame that the fork goes into. Picture #1.

I don't see any decals or badges so the current paint may not be original. At this point I don't think a repaint would hurt the value. Even a spray job would probably freshen it up nicely.
