What campy rear der is this?

http://s1167.photobucket.com/albums/...t=DSCN0154.jpg

maybe year and quality? I am not familiar with campy, but I understand they have 3 levels. I.E. Dura-Ace, Ultegra(600), 105

This is on a 1983 Basso Gap. Looking to see if this is origonal to the bike I am looking at purchasing.

<C> they have more than 3 price points, even now.
so does Shimano those 3 names you dropped , above,,

they had a Daytona set, and some MTB components in the 80s
greek mountain names. and mathematicians.

Do a derailleur search on Velobase and you will know exactly what you have and probably the vintage, also.

It appears to be an early 1990s Athena and if so, ar that ime would have been 4th out of Campgnolo's line of 5 five road gtoups.

This is off the Basso from the other thread?

I was puzzled by that too until I was looking at Xenon parts earlier on Velobase. I am pretty sure it is from the '91ish era of Xenon.

OPs pic

VeloBase http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.as...e8578&Enum=108

The shape is just not right for an '80s Athena. it is hard to tell in this pic but the cage is shape differently around the upper pivot area.

'88 Athena

Xenon was basically Athena with a powder-coat to save on the cost of polishing the aluminum, . The OPs derailleur appaers to be non-powder-coated, hence my Athena appraisal.

Didn't anyone notice that one RD have pressed steel arms (The painted or PC'd one), while the other (the confirmed Athena?), has cast or forged aluminum??
So, I think that you cannot directly attribute the painted one to Athenas because of that difference.....

The painted one is Xenox. Athena is polished aluminum
Also with Xenon the cage is stamped steel, while the Athena one is aluminum.
The shape if both is the same. If you see them side by side the difference is easy.
