Raleigh bicycle on cl - worth?

    http://lincoln.craigslist.org/bik/2879094441.html

found this on my local craigs list for $75 and was wondering exactly what it was and its worth

i think its cool but know nothing mor than what it says

There's just something to be said for a cruiser that can play like a mountain bike or run with the pack of ss/fg road bikes or be a good commuter or be a utility bike and pull a trailer or just cruise around like theres no care but the joy of a leisure ride.

I see a tremendous amount of work. Do you have the time/tools/interest/space/access to parts to do it all yourself? If so, it could be a fun project. If not, I would look for a bike in a lot better shape.

Make sure that seat post is not stuck. Ditto the stem.

There is a date code on the rear hub. That bike is pretty old, 50/60s, I think. It can be narrowed down some by decal scheme. There's a good article on Raleigh three speeds on Sheldon Brown's site.

Most I've paid for one is about 100$. It was later (knock the price down) but a Superbe (knock the price up, better model). On a CL market, in completely reworked shape, you might get 150$ on the very best of days. You'd need to replace a lot of stuff, I think, including the 597 ISO tires, which might require a hunt. This one lacks a leather Brooks saddle, a dynohub, and several other desirable parts. In the shape it is in, despite the full chaincase ( which indicates a UK model, read up on them on Sheldon Brown), I'd say 50-75$ tops. The price isn't unreasonable for a rider, but it's not a great buy as a flipper.

Thanks so much. It's the UK part that had my attention the most.
    Iv always likes those guards.

I'll wait and see if seller will go down
