Apple Krate

What is the real value of an original (not a reproduction) Schwinn Apple Krate, with (almost) everything working. It is missing the chain guard, and chain, It has some rust, and the paint is not in good shape. The paint is original and the parts match.

It probably needs new inner shift and brake wires.

It does not have the correct, original seat.

A gentleman is selling the bike for $600 on CL.

That seems a hundred or two high - but I really do not know.
thank you.

I do not know much about these nor follow them but as described about I would say it a $550 too high. no chain guard or seat really hurts the value.

Condition and completeness is everything with Krates. $300 +/- $50 is more in-line considering the condition issues and missing parts.

its matter of condition. They are still selling 400plus.

In that condition, I wouldn't even talk to this person. He is asking hundreds, HUNDREDS, too much !

Thank you.

I was in a shop in Ft. Myers last week and they had one up on the stand. It looked to be in good shape, so I asked about it. The guy said they were selling it for 1500. I kind of laughed, then the guy said it was worth 2500. I left.

there was an incomplete one on ebay recently that sold for $300 - but it still did have the seat. IMO that was a pretty high price for an incomplete bike. I would have expected something like $200.

I did not even make an offer. The derailleur was off the bike and sprung. The paint was worse than advertised. The bike was missing the front fender. There was a "bag of parts" that went with the bike. I couldn't even offer less, but chose to walk. When I sell bikes, I try to sell bikes in good shape & will declare in the ad what has been, or needs to be done. I try to sell at a good market price. It still amazes me that there are those out there that try to sell broken rust buckets for small fortune. Just sayin....
