Help...Ciocc year and...authenticity?
Looking for some help identifying this find...year, etc? Its marked as a Designer '84 but has some differences from other ones I've seen online. For instance, no pantographed seat stays, internal cable routing on the top tube and a cinelli stamped BB shell? Its built up with a mix of campy and Dura Ace, hard to tell what was original if any of it. Check it out and help me if you can. Also wondering about a ballpark value of course. thanks in advance...

Looks different than mine. The BB, rear brake bridge and seat lug are all different. What does the fork crown look like? Check the tubing for internal rifling to verify that it is SLX.
I'm sure it's a real Ciocc and probably a legit model '84. I believe the model '84 was made for at least 4-5 years. If I had to guess, this would have been made later in the model run, since some of the pantographs have been eliminated and the seat stay caps and seat lug look more modern.
Depending on overall condition and parts, you're looking at a $400 to $700 bike.
BTW, your drive side BB cup is starting to unscrew (Italian threaded frames are notorious for this). Tighten it up and add some blue loctite - you'll be good to go.

I believe that Ciocc made replicas of the Designer '84 for many years, this is one of them. Dunno what it is worth, probably $800 or so? I have two Cioccs and they are amazing bikes.

So...
...one vote for real, one for replica. Both are saying ciocc though? And when you suggest it's a replica but still made by ciocc, do you mean similar to the ones they are still selling now? Any way to date it at all? Anyone else seem one with internally routed top tube? The fork crown is pantographed but not lugged...I'll post a pic of that too. Sorry but 800 seems awful steep as an estimate unless it had a fancy group included but like I said this one is a mix of odds and ends, dura ace, campy record, even 105 brakes and 600 crankset... Hmmm. Pretty decent shape though, some rubs and chips but no rust, chrome is still nice.
Thanks in advance for any additional info.
And thanks for the heads up on the BB! I had noticed it and it's partly why I haven't yet ridden it but replica or not I'm looking forward to the ride...

My choice of the word "replica" might have been a poor one---the bike is definitely a Ciocc but there can only be one Designer '84 frame as it was produced in 1984. I suppose that the frame was such a success that the Ciocc company decided to recreate it for many years after 1984. I have one that is spaced for 130mm, for example, meaning it was built much later than 1984.
To my eye, that frame is in excellent condition. You didn't mention the 105 brakes or other lower end parts in your original post and the photos show very little but I still think that the frame is where the value lies so $800 is not far off.
What is the seller asking?

So...
I paid $500, the seller was aksing $650. Yeah, the frame is in nice shape overall. Like I said, chips and the like but no surface rust and the chrome is pit free. Some nice condition 7400 Dura Ace components FD, RD, headset, downtube shifters, brake levers...but the hoods are loose and unattached. Is there a fix for that? glue? It has a 7 speed freewheel mounted to Campy record hubs and these Campy Omega Strada rims front and rear...so I think the rear spacing is 126mm? Havent removed the BB yet to verify the tubing...I'm looking for some helical rifling at the base of the deat tube by the BB shell right? It is LIGHT though...close in weight to the aluminum single speed I do alot of winter commuting on and that things is like 16lbs sans pedals...
Trying to decide if I should remain true to the era for a restore so having a better idea of the build date would be nice. Any suggestions that arent astronomical in price...

$500 for a nice SLX bike with Dura Ace and Campy? Well done!!!
If you want to remain true to the era, you're already there. Probably looking at a sub-21-pound bike once you add pedals.
