1987 Schwinn prologue with Shimano 60o Ultegra gruppo

Hi there,

I am new to the forums. I just picked up this sweet 1987 Schwinn Prologue frame in good to great condition. There are a few minor paint chips along the chain stay and it needs a good clean, lube, and tune. It came with the Shimanno 600 Ultegra gruppo from around that time (between '87 and '89 is when it was built). It has Matrix ISO-C rims and the chain ring is a Shimanno Dura-ace from around the same year. Campy seat post and Cinelli bars.

Picked this up for $200. What do you say? Was this a good buy?

From what I have read, these Prologue frames were pretty sweet. It definitely isn't a common bicycle. It rides amazing, the steel is really light compared to some other steel racing bicycles I have seen from around this time. I am really in love with this guy!

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

-Gio

A complete 1987 Prologue with 600 for $200?

You stole it. :D

YES! That is an amazing buy.

At this point, you're obligated to show us pictures :)

Very nice! FWIW, Schwinn sold the Prologue as a frameset only including the Tange headset; the dealer and/or customer decided which components to use. The 1988 retail price for the frame and fork was $400.00.

Here's the frameset geometry.

Very nice, thanks much! Haha i just realized I called the title of the thread "1987 Schwinn Prestige" haha clearly incorrect. Is there any way to edit that?

Prologue complete in clean, pristine condition, and nice components (600 or better) is about a $400 bike. In general, they are under-appreciated in the market.

You can't, but the mods can. Just flag it by clicking on the little exclamation point in the black triangle in the lower left corner of your post (the "report" button) and ask that the "Prestige" in the thread title be changed to "Prologue."

The thread title is what first prompted me to look at it; I've never heard of a Schwinn Prestige. ;)

Well done! A friend of mine has the same model, but he's upgraded it to Campagnolo components - it's a fantastic bike!
