There's a special subforum for valuations. The moderators will probably move your thread there for you.

Redcay is a top level builder - one of the very best, but he lacks name recognition. He worked with Tom Kellogg under Bill Boston and, later, for Ross. I've heard rumors there was bad blood, but I have no idea if that's true. At any rate, I've been fortunate enough to see a couple of Redcays and they are exquisite. Never had the chance to ride one. At any rate, because he isn't a name in the way Sachs or Kellogg are, the frame is probably worth less on the market than its value as a top rate frame. Usually smaller name customs are excellent values for a buyer, but rarely sell for as much as their quality would suggest they should be worth. Part of that is that custom frames are worth less when built for a different rider.

IMO Redcay is the kind of frame you keep and don't sell.

If you just bought isn't worth what you paid? would you have paid $50 more? $100 more?

The OP is obviously trying to get a sense of the general dollar market for Redcays - which IMO is a fair question. Though I'm not fond of the profit motive as a prime mover for appearing here in C&V. I may be willing to pay more than the OP just bought it for, in which case the value has gone up.
Pics of the actual bike are essential for valuation - look forward to seeing some.

I would like to see pics as well.

A Redcay is in my top ten list.

Be fun to see but I have to agree there are a number of good American builders that never got the market's eye.

Quite true.

There are folks I ride with in the Twin Cities that are oblivious to Dave Anderson, Chris Kvale, and Curt Goodrich for example.

General consumers as well.

This leaves incredible value for the buyer when one of these sneak out into the local used market.

I happened to meet a fellow last year in Mpls. with a Redcay.

We were on a very large family ride in Mpls. and I chatted with him about his beautiful Redcay sport tourer.

Talk about nice details. The lugwork was just right as well, at least to my eyes.

He is the second owner and was able to acquire the bike for a very reasonable sum.

I gave him my phone number if he ever lost interest in the bicycle, but no call yet.

I've casually watched for one since then in my size, but no luck so far.

Sooner or later it will work out.

I just hope I'm not knee deep in projects when one shows up.
