    unknown bianchi 1980's red piaggio

i bought and partially restored into running condition a red bianchi road bike with suntour honor rear and suntour sport front derailur and "sp" center pull brakes with compe pads.

i have no idea what its made of and there are no serials on the fork or front and the only thing marked on the bottom bracket is "1137" i think its Japanese because of the suntour parts

any idea of the value of the frame, should i leave it un molested and sell the frame i bought it for 10$ and put 6 hours of work into completely disassembling and cleaning each part.

im planning on totally striping and custom painting the frame and making it my own custom classic racing bike

ive been training to use the bike, its a bit heavier than most road bikes but ive got the power and the ride is amazing even better than my trek mountain bike and it accelerates like crazy with its big 27 inch rims.

Hello Classicspeed, welcome to the forums. That looks like a basic model from the later '70s. While there isn't much value to this bike I don't think I would paint it. as long as it is apart I would touch up the real bad spots with some auto touch up and wax the frame real well. You may want to sell it and your have better luck with the original paint and Biancchi decals.

The model is likely a '70 Special or Sport SS, made with a HiTen or Mangalloy frame. This is a great bike to learn the basics of repair and riding on.

Others but still loved,; '80 RIGI, '80 Batavus Professional, '87 Cornelo, '86 Bertoni (sold), '09 Motobecane SS, '98 Hetchins M.O., '09 K2 Mainframe SOLD, '89 Trek 2000, '?? Jane Doe (still on the drawing board), '90ish Haro Escape

IMO the bike is worth maybe $50-75. A little less if you repaint it.

I hate when people repaint bikes, but one this one it has little value to begin with so repainting it isn't quite the sin it would be on a nicer bike.
Why "derailer" is the correct way to spell the gear-change mechanism: sheldonbrown.com/derailer.html
